Timeline of Events

Rova the 25th, 4701AR
• Early Morning
○ As Mari attempts to swim to the surface, Groot throws a rock tied to the rope which falls a little short. He starts to pull the rope back while Mari continues to swim.
○ With a herculean effort, Mari makes headway against the whirlpool and is able to get to the rope and grab on.
○ Groot, Morfear and Optimus all pull on the rope. Morfear slips on the wet shore and falls in the pool as Groot slowly pulls Mari from the whirlpool and on to safety.
○ Ari heads over to the rock with the iron chest and starts looking it over, searching for traps and other possible trouble spots.
○ Ari looks around for a place to attach a rope. Finding none, he pounds a piton in to the stone.
○ Morfear pulls himself from the water.
○ Ari finds the rune on the chest and sees the smudge where Mari tried to scrape it off.
○ Morfear and Groot try to help out Ari by suggesting they tie a rope to Ari and hold it from the shore. (The DM really liked this idea >:))
○ Ari attempts to disable the trap and again triggers it throwing Ari off the stone. In slow motion, Ari watches his piton let go from the stone cube as he continues to fly in a beautiful arc over the water and in to the whirlpool.
○ Ari is able to swim out of the whirlpool zone and back to the stone cube where he climbs back on. He pounds the piton back in and then smudges the rune slowly off. The stone quivers slightly, but does not move.
○ He checks the chest one more time before he tries to open the lid only to find it locked. He picks the lock and hears a click.
○ He slowly opens the lid and looks inside to find an empty chest.
○ Optimus swims out to the stone block and then checks to see if there is any other magic on the chest, but finds none.
○ They look around the room again just to see if anything else changed, and find everything seems to be the same.
○ Giving up on the chest, they head down to where the secret tunnel came out of the cavern. They find a foot bridge over the small stream.
○ There is some discussion about throwing Thord out over to the stone cube which doesn’t go over well with Thord.
○ Noticing a cavern opening above the pool to the south, the group heads over to the cavern and looks inside to find a tunnel leading away from the pool.
○ They follow the tunnel for several hundred feet before reaching a Y-intersection where one of the branches heads down and the other heads up.
○ Taking the right branch, they head down deeper in to the earth. After about thirty minutes of travel, they come upon a cave-in.
○ They look around the cave-in for a bit, before heading back to the Y-intersection.
○ Heading up the left branch, Adran notices some hoof-prints on the ground. After checking them out more carefully, they determine they probably came from the minotaurs.
○ After about an hour of travel, they start to feel a light breeze on their cheeks and the torches flicker ever so slightly.
○ A short time later, they come to a cave opening. Looking out over the dark landscape, they see a forest.
○ A quick discussion was had and the group decided to camp until the morning to see where they actually are.
• Morning
○ Looking out over the forest, they determine they are in the crags on the south side of the road about two miles from the graveyard.
○ They notice an old campsite near the cave entrance as well as some more hoof-prints.
○ Asking Thord and Assaran what they want to do, the two decide it might be safer to be with the adventurers than on the road.
○ Having taken their bearings, they head back down the tunnel to the pool.
• Late Morning
○ Ari leads the party in to the room where Thord was being roasted. The furnace area is still blazing with waves of heat.
○ After checking out the heat again, they head past the broken gorgon statue and reach the hall near the pool room. Optimus kicks a minotaur and removes a horn from the minotaur corpse.
○ The group climbs the stairs and into a wide gallery where two thrones sit in an alcove. On one of the thrones sits a gaunt figure in black funeral wrappings and a golden gown.
○ The eyes of the gaunt figure light up with a red glow and it says, “Ah, more visitors, how lovely. I am Alicia, Alicia Ambergul. Why have you disturbed our eternal rest?”
○ Mari mentions they were looking for friends and a large stone altar and the lich responds with “Oh you were searching for that hideous stone thing my husband found.”
○ Asked if they found it, they mention they didn’t find it, but they meant the item inside and she meant the altar. After quickly correcting here, they explain there was something inside it and it was already taken.
○ Mari asks the lich about a possible curse and she calls them grave robbers.
○ Mari asks if they give the items back will the curse be lifted and the lich answers in the affirmative.
○ Ari then asked if the curse was the lich’s and she says it was not hers, but something laid down by her husband oh so long ago.
○ Asked about her husband, she mentions they have probably already met him, especially if they have made it this far.
○ Ari asks the lich how they could lift the curse. She mentions she might have something which can remove the affliction.
○ Asked what she would like in trade, she points at the dwarf and says she wants the iron amulet in his possession.
○ Mari asks why the lich wants the amulet and only gets, “give me the amulet and I will remove the curse which afflicts you” in response.
○ Morfear passes the amulet to the lich and Groot and Adran see a slight nimbus flash behind him.
○ The lich mutters some arcane words and a burst of power passes through them all.
○ Morfear then asks about what is in the urns and she responds “my friends”
○ Ari mentions she has a wonderful home and she says her husband used to rob graves and built this to house his plunder.
○ Morfear asks about the cat and she offers it as a gift. Ari tells them to refuse it.
○ Ari then asks the lich about whether or not she has heard of Arvik. She mentions the name doesn’t mean anything to her, but that the previous one who came through, friend to Thord and Assaran, was working for him, but nothing other than that.
○ Ari mentions they were trying to collect some items while Mari asks where the lich’s husband got the altar from.
○ Ari asks about the verse they got from the monolith and the lich has never heard of it.
○ Morfear asks about the minotaurs and she says she didn’t know about the entrance they found.
○ Mari asks about the demon summoning circle and she mentions it was something her husband found and collected.
○ Morfear asks the lich how they can get out and she mentions there is a door behind her and sends them through.
○ They follow the corridor for about five minutes and they come out the secret door in the crypt. The one Mari wanted to go through at the beginning.
○ They head out the crypt and past the block where they had pounded pitons in. One of the pitons has been removed and the other is currently being pulled out by a flesh golem. They can also hear the ogre statue on the other side trying to push on the block.
○ Getting out of the crypt in to the graveyard, they head back to Sandpoint.
○ As they are heading back, Ari tells the group to not mention letting Darwa go to anyone.
• Mid-Day
○ The group strides in to town and Assaran takes his leave to go find his fiancé. Thord asks about when they will be taking him to Ironhold and they mention they need to get some provisions and do a few errands before they head out.
○ The group head to the Black Stag to drop off things. Ari decides to stay at the Inn and catch up on some sleep.
○ The resti head over to Brodert’s place and knock on the door. There is no answer. Trying the door, they find it locked.
○ They head over to the Old Light and call out for him for a bit before giving up and head to find the herbalist.
○ They arrive at Hannah’s herbs to find a woman exit the door, lock it, and start heading down the road catching up to the woman they find she is Hannah Verelin.
○ She asks what she may do for them. Morfear mentions Groot has a curse and mentions the items they need for its removal.
○ Hannah brow furrows deeper and deeper as she listens to the list and mentions those items are very rare and they are usually used by people who are up to no good.
○ They spend a few moments convincing her their needs are honorable before she relents and lets them know the midnight moss could be found at the bottom of Wisher’s Well.
○ She tells them they could find the well south of the Pit near the track that heads in to the farmlands.
○ Mari asks if she knows of anyone else who might know where the items might be and Hannah mentions Darwa, but that she hasn’t seen her for a while.
○ Hannah mentions she is needed at a farmhouse to deliver a child. The group tells Hannah to tell the girl they said hi and Hannah looks puzzled, but nods and heads off.
○ The group heads back to inn and take some time to rest.
• Mid-Evening
○ As they descend the stairs, the innkeeper mentions the mayor was looking for the group.
○ They ask where they might find her and the innkeeper suggests her home. Asked if it seemed urgent, the innkeeper mentioned something about wanting an update.
○ They decide to wait until morning before going to see her.
○ As they eat, they talk about looking for the Sandpoint Devil, looking in to the smugglers and heading to Ironhold with Thord.
○ Suddenly, the door to the inn flies open and a wide eyed Brodert stands in the doorway, looks around and seeing the adventurers hurries over to their table where he drops in to a chair and says, “you guys don’t know what kind of trouble you are in to.”
○ Ari asks if he wants a drink and Brodert immediately says, “take this thing back, I don’t want it,” while offering the amulet they gave him.
○ Ari takes it from him and gets him a drink and says, start from the beginning.
○ He says, “I did a little bit of digging and some scrying on it and found out it was a set of objects that can only be used for a nefarious purpose.”
○ Morfear pulls out the gargoyle amulet and asks if it might be part of the set of objects. Brodert looks at it briefly and nods in the negative.
○ Brodert points at the ancient amulet and says, “that it called the Amulet of Life and it is used in rituals to bestow life upon the dead.”
○ Brodert takes a drink and continues, “there are more of these things. I was reading a book about an item called the Ember Filigree or something like that which can be used in conjunction with the amulet to breach worlds.”
○ Mari asks for a complete list of the items. Brodert says no he doesn’t have a full list.
○ Ari asks about the Shard of Strength, and Brodert doesn’t recognize the name. However, he says, “if it is one of these types of objects and someone got ahold of this, then they could cause major havoc in the world.”
○ Mari says they are trying to stop Arviik and Darwa from obtaining them and Brodert asks about it. They mention they had already obtained one from the crypts.
○ About that time, Ari noticed Thord trying to be as unobtrusive as possible.
○ Ari asks Thord if he can add anything to this conversation and he says nope, don’t know anything about this stuff. Prompted about Darwa he feigns to know nothing about the objects she is looking for.
○ Mari prompts him about the shard and he claims he doesn’t know, but he guesses it could be.
○ Ari asks if Thord helped find any other items and he says no, just this one and then they were supposed to go back to Ironhold and deliver it. Deliver it with the rest of the items.
○ Asked about the other ones, he claims to not know where they got them and mentions a lantern that never goes out. Also, the shard and then some item they are looking for in the hold.
○ Thord quickly glances at the amulet on the table before mentioning one more item they had gotten before he heard about the items. Asked what it was he claims he doesn’t know what it was.
○ Mari clarifies about the number they wanted and Thord comes up with five items that he knows about.
○ Thord professes not to know what is going on just that the necromancers are keeping the hold from falling apart and as long as they keep doing that then he doesn’t care.
○ Asked about holding up the walls, he mentions they are making these magical circles.
○ Ari tries to reason with Thord’s conscience and it really doesn’t sway him.
○ Thord throws Mamma Booga in Ari’s face.
○ Morfear asks Brodert what to do with the item and he suggests they destroy it or lose it somewhere where no one can find it.
○ Mari asks if he could research how to destroy the item and Brodert says he is not researching these things anymore.
○ Ari asks how it deals with the old script. Brodert just says they are both Thassilonian and that’s it, but he speculates that if they are items of Thassilonian power, then they could be strong enough to do almost anything as myths of Thassilonian magic abound of its strength.
○ Brodert mentions maybe the prophecy is about the Whispering Tyrant and maybe the items could be used to free him.
○ Ari asks about where the prison is and Brodert says it is in Gallowspire. Brodert has no idea where they might perform this ritual.
○ Ari asks if there are any legends about how they might stop this.
○ Brodert mentions we are in the age of broken omens which means that prophecies may or may not happen ever since the god of Cheliax was killed.
○ Morfear takes the amulet and puts it in to his pouch.
○ Morfear mentions they were looking for Brodert earlier and he says he was speaking with Ilsoari about the amulet.
○ Ari shows Brodert the crystal rod and he’s not sure what they are.
○ Brodert drinks several more drinks and totters off out the inn.
○ Ari mentions to Thord they could leave tomorrow and Thord is ecstatic.
○ Asked how long it would take to get there he mentions five days by horse.
○ This leads to a discussion about how to get horses and about what to do next again.
○ Morfear seems very concerned about Groot and wants to take a detour to find some of the items he needs.
○ They also try to decide what to do with the amulet and come to the conclusion to have Morfear hold on to it.
○ Ari suggests just not getting any of Groot’s stuff and hurrying to Ironhold and finally brings everyone around.
○ Mari suggests traveling at night and Morfear suggest leaving at that moment.
○ Morfear asks about horse stables of the inn keeper and he mentions The Way North. Asked where the Way North is he points to the building next door.
○ Ari writes a note for the mayor giving an update on the search for Darwa.
○ The group heads over to the The Way North to buy horses. As they approach, the see it is dark inside…

Timeline of Events

Rova the 24th, 4701AR
• Evening
○ The bone devil quickly falls under the onslaught of the group. While the gargoyles last a little longer, but soon fall as well.
○ From the recording, “It turns out Monks jump a lot. Morfear knows how to get out and where the treasure is. And Groot is stupid.”
○ Assaran broods over Nevil’s corpse and says he needs to tell his sister. Ari asks if that is the same as his fiancee and he says no she’s a hag.
○ Ari then breaks the summoning circle by breaking the chains.
○ Meanwhile, Optimus looks over the weapons on the wall and determines a spear is magical. Looking over the spear, he is able to determine it is a flaming magical spear.
○ Ari looks over the rest of the room, and finds a small leather pouch with 50sp in it under Nevil. He also finds a small ruby in Nevil’s sleeve and asks Eran to determine it’s worth. He says 10gp and there is some concern he is lowballing it.
○ Mari spends some time trying to commune with the water and determines it heads down deeper in to a cave.
○ They discuss where they might head next and it is between the stream or the pool room.
○ The group then heads through the hole in the wall to follow the river for about 30 yards before stopping. The river steadily gets deeper. They notice the river curve just on the edge of their torchlight.
○ They turn around and head back through the stone double doors, past the corpse of the lurker and the trapper, past the slightly glowing double doors, under the portcullis and back through the long hall before reaching the room with the mirrors on the ceiling.
○ Here they pause as Morfear decides whether or not he wants to break the mirrors. Finally, he decides to throw a rock at one of the mirrors breaking it. Through the broken mirror, they see a stone ceiling.
○ He breaks two more mirrors before they notice a dark hole in the ceiling.
○ Ari leaps up in to the empty hole with a torch where he finds twelve corroding coffins. Eight of the coffins burst open as wights come spilling out.
○ Caught up in the room by himself, Ari moves further in to it while several of the wights drop through the open hole in to the room below to attack the rest of the group.
○ Escaping the wights, Ari drops back in to the main room with the rest of the group and is able to help the rest of the party defeat the wights.
○ After defeating the wights, Ari searches their dead bodies and finds some ancient armor on one of them as well as a lustrous black pearl on the pomel of his sword and an amulet of a grinning gargoyle face. None of which is magic.
○ They then climb up in to the secret area and search the coffins and they find nothing of interest.
○ Feeling very much exhausted from the ordeals of the past several hours, they decide to take a long rest in this defendable area.

Rova the 25th, 4701AR
• Early Morning
○ After their long rest, the party continues on into the pool room and then head down towards the door on the other end.
○ Groot looks to determine if the door is unlocked and gets a small shock from the knob. He then tries to knock the door down before trying the knob again and opening the door.
○ Behind the door, they found a long dark corridor. The walls of which steadily become less and less maintained as they head down it until the walls become bare gray plaster.
○ As they head down the hall, they search for secret doors, but eventually they reach a ledge over a small stream. On the other side the corridor ends in a brick wall. Morfear thinks this is the same stream from the gargoyle room.
○ Mari jumps in the five foot deep stream and she starts getting swept down the stream. She muscles her way back up stream and like a salmon leaps from the water and climbs back on to the corridor.
○ They head back down the corridor to the pool room.
○ They look at the large hallway on the other side of the pool room and notice another portcullis on this end of the long hallway. This portcullis is partially raised. On the south end of the hall (on the other side of the portcullis), they see a broken statue and a ruined cave-like entrance in the back. In the middle, there are three life-sized minotaur statues and a cart covered with a tarp.
○ Optimus teleports to the other side and tries to move one of the minotaur statues. At the same time, Morfear heads under the portcullis and starts to look around.
○ Optimus tries to move another and is unable to move them.
○ Morfear heads over to the cart and looks around. He looks inside and finds various art objects.
○ Mari finally enters the room and checks to see if any of the items are magical. None of them seem to be magical.
○ Ari and the rest of the group head under the portcullis and check the dais at the end. All around the dais are several large, broken stones. Ari believes this pieces might come from a statue. Several others look at it and determine the statue was probably a gorgon.
○ Ari continues to explore the end and starts to head down the roughhewn tunnel. A few moments later, the rest of the group follows.
○ They continue down the passage with Mari and Ari in the lead and Groot and Optimus next followed by the rest of the group.
○ The passage widens into a small room where they find three more minotaurs.
○ After a short, furious battle during which they heard a voice shout from further down the passage, “Tu AKH pah VOS tuvosh!” (which means “Your father was a beardless coward!” in Goblin), “You can cook me an’ eat me, but be damned if I’m gonna taste good!”, and “Grit? Lump? Is that you?”, as well as Mari taking a massive blow from the minotaurs, they are victoriuous.
○ As she comes to, Mari shouts, “Mamma booga is that you?”
○ Ari and Groot start looking around and Adran mentions there is a door in a wall to the south. Groot opens the door and finds a damp corridor beyond.
○ Suddenly they hear, “Hey, what’s going on out there?” The group abandons the secret passage and heads north in to a hot roughhewn cave. In front of an alcove filled with flame is a half-naked dwarf on a spit. When he notices the group he says, “Quit admirin’ the view an’ cut me down, ijits! I’m roastin’ alive!”
○ Ari cuts the dwarf down and Assaran recognizes the dwarf saying, “Thord, we’ve found you.”
○ Ari looks in the flaming alcove and notices there doesn’t seem to be any origin of the fire.
○ Morfear determines it is magical, but is unsure of the type.
○ Looking over Thord, he is a bald dwarf with a braided double beard and partially rotten teeth. He thanks them for cutting him down.
○ Thord mentions the last time he had seen Assaran, he was stone and he would have taken him home, but the statue was too heavy.
○ Ari ask Thord how he had been caught. Thord mentions he fell in to the stream as he was trying to leave and when he got out of the stream he was caught by the minotaurs and held for a bit before just now being put on the spit.
○ Groot and Morfear search the minotaurs and find nothing of value.
○ Morfear asks Thord about the crystal. Thord mentions he took the item out of the altar and gave it to Lump who probably still has it.
○ As they take a rest, Thord mentions the exploits of the band previous to this. How they had fought the wraiths and lost two people. How Grit found a sword and chased off the wraiths. They then swam upstream and bribed the gargoyles. The lurker then dropped on bear and went through the secret door and in to the altar room. Darwa then tried to open the altar with the lightning bolt which turned her to stone.
○ Mari asks if Thord can take them back to the last place they saw Lump. Thord mentions it was the room with the gargoyles.
○ Ari then asks about why Thord was working with Darwa. He mentions that she and her friends were keeping the halls from collapsing. He then mentions Ironhold.
○ Mari asks if he knows Mamma Booga and he responds in the affirmative. When asked if she was his wife, he says no.
○ Morfear asks Thord if he is an apprentice to Arvik, and Thord says hell no that guy is scary is all get out and that necromancy is for suckers.
○ Ari mentions to Thord he could travel with them and he agrees for now. Ari also asks about where Arvik might be and Thord mentions last he knew he was in Sandpoint.
○ After Thord has rested a bit, they head out of the hot cave and to the west where they find the river empties in to a rather large underground lake. In the lake is a huge black dragon statue and a huge stone with an iron chest chained to it.
○ Ari ask Thord if he came this way, but he says no not this way.
○ Mari swims out to the huge block and Ari swims to the black dragon statue.
○ Ari makes it to the statue and climbs on to the base. He notices the left eye has a glittering black gem.
○ Ari looks around for traps and then climbs up on the statue and pries the gem out of the eye.
○ Meanwhile, Mari has climbed on the block and examines the iron chest which is chain to the top of the block.
○ Mari checks the area for magic. She notices a tiny rune etched on to the chests lid. She examines the rune and determines that it is a trap which will fire off if the chest is opened. She also thinks she might be able to disable the trap by scraping the rune off.
○ Mari tries to scrape off the rune and the stone block suddenly tilts towards the north. Mari falls of the cube and in to the pool on the north side and is caught in the current of a whirlpool.
○ Mari swims as fast as she can as the whirlpool slowly sucks her in.
○ Groot and Morfear move a bit out in to the pool and attach a stone to a rope and throw it towards Mari in the whirlpool.
○ Ari starts to move towards Mari as he gets his grappling hook and rope ready.
○ Mari continues to struggle against the whirlpool as it slowly pulls her under. Can her companions save her from a watery doom…

Timeline of Events

Rova the 24th
• Late Afternoon
○ Confronting the now live trolls head on, our heroes have a tough time of it. Ari and Mari are suddenly unsure of what to do and Morfear, Adran, and Eran are back in the altar room performing the ritual to restore Darwa to flesh. This leaves Groot, Brandis, and Optimus to fight off the troll threat.
○ Groot and Optimus each take a troll and Brandis provides support for them both. Unfortunately, Groot takes the brunt of several attacks and falls unconscious, but not before one of the trolls falls.
○ Turning to focus on the remaining troll, Brandis feels the fury of the down troll as it regenerates and regains consciousness.
○ Brandis is the next to fall unconscious as the fighting becomes dire.
○ Finally, Mari and Ari decide to act. Ari shouts for Morfear and then engages the trolls.
○ Mari wades in and helps out Groot by pouring a potion down his throat. Then she starts attacking the trolls.
○ Groot recovers to find himself intoxicated, but joins the fight against the trolls as he stumbles towards the trolls.
○ Ari then uses a potion on Brandis to revive him and then lights a torch to try to burn the trolls.
○ Brandis uses a potion of healing and not only heals but gains the ability to breath a cone of fire which he then puts to good use against the trolls.
○ As they are trying to finish off the trolls, the medusa appears from a hall further in the room and starts attacking the group.
○ Upon seeing the medusa, Ari decides to try and get to the rest of the party in altar room and starts running down the secret hall.
○ While Ari is running for help, the rest of the group squares off against the trolls and the medusa. They fight hard, but only take it out the trolls and slightly damage the medusa before Groot falls again.
○ Ari finally returns at a dead run with Adran and Eran. They all immediately attack the medusa and then Eran goes invisible and reaches the down Groot and provides him with another potion.
○ After a very harrowing fight with Ari also going down to massive wounds, the group prevails, but just barely.
○ Mari takes some acid from the medusa while they search her body for treasure.
○ Feeling extremely beat up after the fight, everyone heads back to the altar room to await Morfear’s ritual.
• Evening
○ Morfear’s ritual completes and Darwa turns back to flesh and is extremely surprised to find herself bound and gagged.
○ They start talking with Darwa and accuse her of being a necromancer and she responds by playing dumb and that she is a midwife.
○ Assaran mentions that she cast a lightning bolt to open altar and Darwa finally cops to knowing magic. She admits she needed to get something out of it for her employer.
○ They ask her about the clockwork cat and she thinks it is just a spy for the Lich.
○ They talk to her about Arvik and she mentions they had been peers.
○ Then they mention that Arvik is dead and Darwa’s tune changes. She admits to being a necromancer and fills them in on various items of inquiry in return for letting her go.
○ Darwa says she is an apprentice to Arvik and that Arvik has tasked her and his other apprentices to find several items to be used as part of a ritual. The one she was looking for here was known to be the Orb of Strength.
○ Darwa doesn’t know what the ritual is about, but she mentions there are more items than just the Orb. She had also seen another orb with holes in it, but that is all she had seen.
○ They then pursue a line of questioning about why she is a necromancer and where she comes from and her motivations.
○ She then mentions there are three other apprentices of Arvik. When asked if Arvik is in league with someone else, she mentions he is the apprentice to Saryl Var. She doesn’t know where Saryl Var is located.
○ They then try to prove that Arvik is evil to Darwa and she turns it on its head by showing how the group attacks goblins as if they are nothing but pawns, so maybe Arvik just feels people are pawns.
○ Asked what she will do now, she says the item she was sent to find is gone, so she is not sure what she will do.
○ When asked about the trap on the altar, she mentions she was with Thord, Lump, and Grit and doesn’t feel they would betray her.
○ Asked what the orb looks like, she describes a purple translucent crystal shard about the size of an ogre’s hand.
○ She points out that the item is not in the altar, but she saw it before she was turned to stone.
○ She describes Thord (a dwarf), Grit (a half-goblin, half-dwarf), and Lump (an ogrillion). When pressed if they might have taken the item, she concedes they might have and if so would have taken it to Ironhold.
○ Mari asks what she was to do with the item when she had it. She was to wait for contact from Arvik at her abode in Sandpoint.
○ Morfear asks where Ironhold might reside and she mentions it is in the Fenwall mountains. They feel the name is familiar and remember the coin from the temple.
○ She also mentions that the other apprentices would be at the hold and that her compatriots (Thord, Grit, and Lump) seem to be more loyal to the mission.
○ She mentions she had a map of some locations where artifacts might exist. When asked if she would be going back to town and mentions probably not since there is a bounty on her head.
○ Asked to join the group, she declines.
○ They ask Darwa about Groot’s curse and she is no help, but does mention there is a lair of night spiders in Mosswood. She also mentions they should talk with Hannah Verelin in town. She would know where some of them are.
○ Asked about the Lich she had mentioned in the crypt, she has no opinion.
○ Mari then asks about how she started learning necromancy and whether she would teach her.
○ Finally, Ari cuts her loose and she heads up the stairs.
○ Ari then pulls out the rod and notices it is not purple. Moving it close to the altar, the altar turns to mud and oozes all over the floor.
○ The group then head back through the secret tunnel to the room with all the statuary and down the hall the medusa came from to find the room where they had originally met the medusa when leaving the alcove with the red mist.
○ They search the room and start looking over the various items in the room. Ari looks at the corpse in the corner and finds nothing of worth.
○ Mari and Brandis look at the urn to see if it is magical, but it is not. Worked in to the top of the urn is a signet ring.
○ Groot notices that there are mummified remains behind the plaster armor.
○ Mari notices a keyhole on the ovoid statue while Groot finds tiny key on the divan. Groot takes the key over the statue and opens it up where they find some treasure.
○ Mari finally realizes that the other items (the armor, urn, and mummy) might be the dead husbands of the medusa.
○ Heading back in to the statuary room, they look over the sphinx and the statues and discover some of the statues are object d’art and worth keeping.
○ Ari tries using the crystal rod to activate things to no avail.
○ Morfear spends time looking over the sphinx before realizing it tingles when he touches it and that radiates divination magic.
○ Morfear tries talking to the sphinx and then pets it. Then he tries to break a piece off of the sphinx and is able to.
○ Mari tries to speak with sphinx in primordial to ask about a riddle, but gets no response.
○ Morfear realizes that the sphinx may respond to questions and Brandis immediately touches it and asks if the sphinx has a prophecy and it responds with “no.”
○ Morfear touches it and asks if it is trapped. Again the answer is no.
○ Brandis asks another question and gets no answer.
○ Mari asks, “who are you?” and gets the response, “I am the diviner of secrets.”
○ Groot asks " do you have a riddle?" and gets the answer “no.”
○ Mari asks another question and gets no response.
○ Ari asks “Can you tells us what threatens the party the most?” and gets response, “Darkness and undeath follow your every move.”
○ Optimus asks “Where is Arvik Zaltos?” and gets reponse, “Your next destination.”
○ Eran asks “where is the orb of strength?” and gets resposne, “your next destination.”
○ Assaran asks “will my child live a good life?” and receives the response, “only time will tell.”
○ Adran asks “where is our next destination?” and receives the response of “Halls that crumble, circles that protect.”
○ After asking their questions, the group heads back to the hall where they attacked the lurker and open the double doors at the end. Inside they find four gargoyles who demand Adran in payment for safe passage.
○ When the group balks at this deal, one of them says an incantation and a bone devil appears. Let the fighting begin…

Timeline of Events

Rova the 24th
• Mid-Afternoon
○ After a short rest, the party spent some time trying to determine where they wanted to go. A discussion was had about the various options including the two doors, the stairwell or the hall.
○ Groot wanted to enter the door furthest from where they entered the room. Mari wanted to explore the halls. Ari wanted to try the door nearest where they entered.
○ Ari checks for traps on the door and finding none they open the door to a hall leading in to a larger room.
○ Ari heads down the hall stealthily and in to the room where he discovers it to be a mess of broken statuary, torn tapestries, splintered furniture, and shards of pottery. The roof is made of mirrors.
○ Everyone joins Ari in the room. Morfear and Mari check the mirrors for magic.
○ Ari and Morfear search for secret doors and then checks out the other door in the room.
○ Mari starts to head back to the other door in the room of pools, but the group convinces her to stay with the rest of them. Mari tries to convince Groot he has missed a number of doors to try and sway him to her side, but that seems to fail.
○ Groot checks out his reflection in the mirrors.
○ Ari opens the door and finds a long dark hall.
○ The party cautiously heads out and down the hall until they reach a corner. Following the hall, they continue on in the darkness. They notice some faded murals painted on the broken plaster walls.
○ Eventually they come upon the golden outline of a door.
○ Groot heads up to and opens the door. On the other side he finds a room bathed in brilliant sunlight which emanates from a pair of doors at the other end. Pulling back from the bright light which hurts his eyes, he notices three minotaurs picking up pieces of golden armor on the other side of a portcullis.
○ Heading in to the room, our adventurers engage the surprised creatures.
○ Battle erupts as the minotaurs finally react to the attack and move to open the portcullis and attack the group.
○ Utilizing superior tactics (such as dropping the portcullis on the minotaurs), the adventurers prevail.
○ After a short rest, they look at the doors and notice they are etched in a gold tracery. Ari opens the doors and the sunlight dims down to a light glow.
○ Looking in the room beyond, they find a darkened room similar to what they were just in without the portcullis and murals of sun priests with donkey heads. At the other end they see a mutilated corpse in front of double doors made of stone.
○ They check the area for magic and detect magic on the doors.
○ Ari then heads down the hall with the intent of examining the dead body, but is stopped short as the floor suddenly engulfs him.
○ Ari fights from within while the rest of the party attempts to free him from the trapper. Eventually, Ari escapes via his cape, but Brandis is engulfed by the beast.
○ During the battle, Ari moves further down the hall and in to the area of the lurker which drops down and attacks him. Ari moves back towards the trapper to try to get the trapper and lurker to fight, but after getting out of the lurkers area it flies back up in to the darkness.
○ A long hard battle is fought to defeat the trapper and then the lurker, but our heroes prevail yet again even though Groot started stinking like crazy before all was said and done.
○ Mari tries to make Groot less stinky using one of her abilities, but is unsuccessful.
○ Searching the area, they find no treasure in either monster but do look over the corpse which was a large man. Lastly, they find a secret door on the wall.
○ Ari verifies the stone doors are actually stone.
○ Heading through the secret door, they head down a set of stairs and through a door in to a room with a large stone altar with two life-like status of a man and a woman. The man looks very similar to the description provided by Onya. In the altar is a large hole which reveals a cavity lined with Thassilonian runes. This hole glows with a sinister purple light.
○ Looking around the room, they notice the lady statue looks very familiar. They also notice a gold clockwork cat playing with a stone rat.
○ Brandis eventually realizes the doors above are similar to the temple found in the swamp.
○ They try to get the rat from the clockwork cat. Mari then determines the cat is magical.
○ Ari notices another secret door in the corner of the room. Ari opens the door and finds a dark dusty corridor.
○ Morfear takes out a scroll of remove affliction and casts the ritual on Arassán.
○ They tie up Darwa as best they can.
• Late Afternoon
○ Morfear finishes his ritual and Arassán returns to flesh.
○ Talking with Arassán, they find out he and Darwa were opening up the altar and the next thing he knows the adventurers are in front of him.
○ He tells them Darwa broke open the altar and that he was the hired help being paid from treasure.
○ Arassán then asks about one Grit, Thord, and Lump. Mari asks him about Grit and Lump and he tells them Grit was a half-dwarf, half-goblin misshapen creature. Lump he couldn’t describe other than he was a large ugly man. He says Thord was a dwarf.
○ When he mentions that, they mention the man above and he says that is Bear.
○ Ari tries to convince Arassán that Darwa is evil. They ask about what Darwa was trying to get and he doesn’t know.
○ Mari then asked about the golden cat. Arassán says they got that from the lich. The group is surprised to hear about the lich.
○ Asking about the lich, Arassán mentions she was the matriarch and that she would leave them be. He describes the lich as a skeleton wrapped in bandages with red eyes.
○ Asking about a medusa, Arassán has not met any medusa.
○ Morfear surmises the lich tricked them in to activating a trap and more discussion about possible traps in the altar ensue.
○ Morfear attempts a religion check on the altar. The altar seems to be dedicated to an earth elemental.
○ They search over the altar for a bit before Ari suggests they head down the other secret passage.
○ Mari tries to talk with the cat, but no communication is made. Mari eventually steals the rat from the cat.
○ Arassán asks why they don’t restore Darwa.
○ Morfear starts the ritual to restore Darwa while several of the party members (everyone except Morfear, Eran, and Adran) head down the dusty secret passage.
○ Eventually they stumble upon an empty alcove which seems to serve no purpose.
○ Continuing on they run into the end of the hall and a secret door.
○ Ari puts out his torch and slowly opens the door. Darkness greets him on the other side.
○ Lighting a torch, he realizes he is standing behind a statue of a troll. There is a lever on one of the wall in an up position. In the middle of the room are several slabs with various stone statues of different sizes.
○ Ari is about to head back when Groot pulls the lever. A soft hissing starts and suddenly the trolls turn back to life and attack…

Timeline of Events

Rova the 24th
• Mid-Afternoon
○ Our intrepid heroes fought the flesh golems toe to toe. Returning blow for blow. After two charges from the automatons which bowled through most of the party, the adventurers were finally able to put them down.
○ Assessing their surroundings they determined they had no idea where they were. Some wanted to go back to the misty alcove and try to get back to the main crypt while others wanted to explore the room with pools and columns carved of giants, four storm giants in the center and two frost giants at either end. Further, a statue of a fire giant sat in an alcove on the far side.
○ After a short rest or two, Groot noticed a door and while trying to determine if he should knock it down got distracted by the pools.
○ Groot, as always, rushed in to the room and started throwing copper pieces in to the various pools.
○ In the first, he found a silver liquid and the copper disappeared in to its depths.
○ In the second, he found a blue reflective material which pinged like metal as the copper piece bounced on its surface to the center.
○ In the third, he found a pool of clear water and a chest at the bottom. The copper dropped to the bottom.
○ Morfear moved over near the fire giant statue while Ari and co stayed on the far side of the room.
○ In the fourth, he found it to contain boiling water with an iron trunk. He drops the copper in and it falls buffeted by the boiling water.
○ In the fifth, he found a gold liquid with a black oily substance which changed into the words, “Guess what treasure I contain?”
○ Groot guesses “doors” and the words “Wrong fool, guess again” appear.
○ Groot guesses “grootbeer” and the words “Wrong fool, guess again” appear.
○ Groot guesses “health potions” and the fire giant shoots lines of flames from its eyes which hit Groot and Morfear.
○ At this point, Mari tries to use her frost blade to cool the boiling pool.
○ Groot moves to the nearest pillar and guesses “gold.” The liquid flushes away and gold coins are found on the bottom the pool.
○ Groot says, “ooo pretty.”
○ Ari moves over and looks in the pool and sees a lot of coins. He tries to light the streaks of oil on fire, but it doesn’t burn.
○ Groot descends into the empty pool using a rope attached to the column.
○ Groot starts throwing out the gold coins. Ari looks at a gold piece and doesn’t recognize the picture of the person on one side nor the monument on the other.
○ Ari sends down a backpack to be filled and Groot fills that and then passes it up.
○ Suddenly, the two frost giant columns in the room shudder and shake and two flesh golems come out of the columns and attack.
○ Ari pushes one of the backpacks back in and hits Groot on the head as he is trying to climb out to face the golems.
○ The battle is joined and our heroes take advantage of their experience from the last battle with golems to overwhelm them.
○ During the battle, Brandis had teleported on top of the reflective blue pool and caused it to break apart causing a small vortex to attempt to pull him in. He is able to escape and notices the metal top had become a tornado of knives.
○ Optimus heads over to the clear water and attempts to determine if it is magical. It didn’t seem to be. Brandis checks his work and concurs.
○ They ask Groot to jump in and get the chest. He initially refuses and they try to fish it out with a rope and grapple.
○ Mari checks the blue metal pool and it is empty except for the metal pieces at the bottom.
○ Optimus ties a rope around himself and jumps in to the pool of clear water. He swims to the chest and tries to move it. He ties his rope to it and swims back up.
○ They pull up the chest and a portion of the water forms in to a water elemental which attacks.
○ They quickly dispatch the elemental back to its home plane and then continue to explore the various pools.
○ Ari drops his rope and grappling hook in to the boiling water pool and can’t hook it on the iron trunk. The grappling hook comes back up hot. Adran shoots some arrows at the trunk which bounce off.
○ Mari climbs down in the pit with the metal while Eran picks the lock on the chest.
○ Morfear and Groot continue to pull the gold out of the pool with the gold pieces.
○ Inside the wooden chest, they find the Iron Armbands of Power and the Boots of Quickness.
○ In the pool with the metal, Ari climbs down and discovers a loose flagstone which when moved reveals a casket with the likeness of a vampire carved upon it. They pull the casket up.
○ Ari opens the casket and they find an alien corpse and a small black wooden coffer which contains four potions of healing.
○ Ari cuts the head off the corpse and throws it in the pool of boiling water.
○ Mari drops her grappling hook in to the silver pool and she feels it hit something. As she is pulling it back up, it gets stuck on something. She tries on either side to unstick it to no avail.
○ Morfear holds the rope and then heads in to the pool using the rope as a guide. She can’t see anything due to the silver pool, but still can’t figure out what it is stuck on. She tries to remove the hook, but can’t budge it.
○ Calling Groot over, she convinces him to head in to the pool. He drops down along the rope and is able to rip the grappling hook free. All of the liquid turns in to a green gas and a statue of an archer.
○ Groot is then pulled out by Morfear along with a stone hand clutching a piece of wood. Adran recognizes the wood as a longbow and Morfear determines it is a longbow of distance.
○ Ari and Optimus head over the pool in the far corner of the room and drop the grappling hook in to an opaque pool of bluish liquid. After determining the pool is about ten feet, he pulls it back up and the grappling hook is lost as the rope has been burned through.
○ Morfear suddenly remembers people might have resistance to various damage and suggest they use that to potentially enter the pools.
○ Groot uses his potion of acid resistance and jumps in to the pool. As he sinks to the bottom he feels really cold. At the bottom he finds a stone chest with no handles. He swims back up and gets out.
○ Ari puts his dagger in the acid and it slowly starts to eat it.
○ Ari gives Mari the crowbar and she activates her cloak and heads in to the acid. She gets to the bottom and pries the lid off. Inside is a small chest which she brings to the top. Inside the chest is a holy symbol of hope +2.
○ Ari heads over to the fire giant statue and starts examining it. He notices the eyes are empty cavities and he looks in to them and sees an iron pipe back in the sockets where the fire comes out. He also notices something else in cavity back there. He pulls out a crystal rod. They check for magic on the rod and find it to have a faint transmutation to it.
○ Ari places it in to the hot water, but only the rod heats up a bit. Brandis tries to think at the rod to activate it.
○ They search the room for a bit for levers and things.
○ Optimus then checks the scalding water and takes only a little damage.
○ Morfear tries to determine if there is some way to suck away the water, but doesn’t seem to find anything.
○ Optimus jumps in the water and swims to the bottom where he tries to open the trunk with the crowbar, but is unsuccessful. He heads back up.
○ Heading back in again, he lifts up the trunk and then puts the rope under it and then swims back up. The group pull the trunk up and out of the pool.
○ Finding three locks on it, Eran unlocks all three of the locks and the lid flips open.
○ Inside the trunk they find three scrolls (dispel magic, remove affliction, remove affliction) and 500ep.
○ Flush with treasure, but feeling the effects of multiple fights our heroes discuss their options…

Timeline of Events

Rova the 24th
• Mid-Morning
○ As the group puzzled over where Groot had disappeared, Groot was pondering over the different runes on the stones. He decided to press the new one (same stone as last time) and the stones changed again.
○ This time he heard his companions calling out for him and responded. He then headed back out in to the crypt.
○ Mari wants to head in to the mist and have Groot show her where he went.
○ A discussion about the necromantic book ensued as Ari wanted the book before they headed in, but Mari balked.
○ The group then discussed about entering the mist hall or continuing to explore the rest of the crypt.
○ Groot discussed what happened (which amounted to the rocks changed and the mist stayed).
○ Ari thought maybe a cone of silence and then discussed Groot falling and hitting his head.
○ They decided to continue exploring the crypt and leave the mist for later.
○ Entering the next crypt room, they find another crypt and with a white casket carved with a woman and a cat. This one was inscribed with Alicia Ambergul.
○ Mari detects a faint aura of transmutation around the room and a strong aura of abjuration on the casket.
○ Morfear opens the casket and finds it empty except for an iron amulet and a book which turned out to be a ritual book.
○ They then checked the amulet for magic and found it to not be magical at all. Morfear rubs it to see if a djinni comes out and nothing happens.
○ Morfear closes the casket back up and the group searches the room for secrets.
○ The group then headed to the last room of the crypt. Here they found a white casket smashed to pieces and a couple of desiccated corpses. They also found what looked to be a door in the wall.
○ Ari starts inspecting the corpses and finds they died of necrotic damage. As he starts looking over the rest of the corpses and several wraiths appear.
○ A titanic battle takes place with the group fighting the insubstantial creatures. Several of the group almost succumb to the wraiths before the undead are put to rest again.
○ Ari then looked in the crypt to see if he could find anything of interest and there was nothing there other than an inscription saying Reynard Ambergul. However, on the bodies he found 60gp, a dagger +2, and three potions of healing.
○ Mari starts eyeing the door while Morfear and Brandis push the point that they need a rest before moving on.
○ Feeling the effects of the battle, Morfear and Ari finally convince Mari to rest before moving on.
• Mid-Afternoon
○ After the rest, Mari opens the door in the wall. Behind the door is hall leading off in to the darkness. They try lighting the torches along the walls which sputter and go back out.
○ Suddenly, the discussion about entering the mist comes back up with Mari and Groot on one side and Ari and Morfear on the other. Ari reminds them of trying to find the kid. Mari and Groot win the argument and they head back to the misty alcove.
○ Looking at the stones, Ari asks Groot what he did and Groot presses the left stone (as opposed to the right one before). Their stomachs seem to drop out and then the runes have changed again.
○ Mari then tries to disperse the mist before the group backs out of the alcove to find themselves in a different place.
○ They found themselves in a room with several object’ de Art and in the center of which sat a divan with a woman and fleshy golem. The woman looks similar to the woman in the painting previously seen except for the snakes covering her head instead of a tiara.
○ The medusa rises from the divan and pulls a bow and arrow and starts shooting the group while the flesh golem charges them.
○ Feeling extremely outmatched, the group back in to the alcove while the flesh golem swings his large fists about him hitting various party members.
○ Brandis presses the left rune and everyone gets shocked.
○ Morfear then presses the center rune and the fluttery feeling comes back briefly and then the runes change again. However, the golem comes with them.
○ They notice a large statue of a dragon outside the alcove. They stand their ground and pummel the flesh golem in to submission.
○ Searching the rest of the room, the discover another alcove with an alabastar urn and a portcullis blocking one end.
○ Groot and Adran notice a plate under the urn while Mari notices the portcullis could be lifted.
○ Mari then opens the portcullis and the dragon spouts steam. Everyone else rolls under the portcullis to get out of the way of the steam.
○ Ari then fires a sling shot at the urn and hits it causes it to wiggle, but not break.
○ Mari tries to get under the portcullis trusting Groot to hold it, but unfortunately, he drops it on her. Lifting it again, they get Mari through.
○ Ari, Adran, and Groot all then hit the urn with a bullet, arrow, and stone respectively causing the urn to break an fall off the pressure plate.
○ Nothing seems to happen until two flesh golems come storming out of the mist. The group starts firing at the flesh golems as well as lifting the portcullis to scald them as they head toward the party.
○ Reaching the portcullis, one of the golems lifts the gate while the other comes through, and the battle is joined…

Timeline of Events

Rova the 24th
• Mid-Morning
○ The group continued up the trail and headed in to the oldest part of the cemetery. Here they found several crypts in various states of ruin. They also found a statue of angel with its arms raised to the heavens.
○ Groot and Optimus headed over to look at the statue while Ari, Mari, and Morfear looked at the various crypts.
○ Ari, Mari, and Morfear discovered several of the crypts had stone doors which were slightly ajar. Ari entered in to one of the crypts and discovered line with urns.
○ Searching around, Ari tripped a trap and the room filled with gas causing him to start coughing. The gas quickly dispersed.
○ About the same time, Groot and Optimus had looked at the statue and found the words “Let the sins that haunt us in life be forgotten in death.” chiseled in the base. They attempted to move the statue to no avail and soon lost interest.
○ Groot decided to look at one of the ruined crypts and discovered nothing of interest.
○ Mari entered another crypt and found a granite slab resting on the floor and again several urns lining the walls. She started to investigate the slab.
○ Meanwhile, Morfear had entered another crypt and discovered something similar to Mari. He attempted discern if the slab could be moved and found that it could not.
○ Mari discovered the slab to be slightly magical with a faint aura of abjuration.
○ Ari entered yet another crypt which contained nothing but bare stone with footprints in the dust. Following the footprints, he found them concentrated in back corner where he found a trap door.
○ Calling everyone over, Ari showed them the trap door which they opened to find stairs heading down in to the darkness.
○ Adran headed down in to the tunnel and followed the tracks to a small room with several large urns, two of which had broken. A bluish-white fungus covered a large part of the back wall. Groot determined it to be a fungus which could cause blue lung disease. Everyone seemed ok, but Optimus had a short coughing fit.
○ The group left the small chamber and the crypt leading to it and entered yet another crypt. Similarly, it was empty except for footprints.
○ A trap door was again found leading to a stairwell heading down in to the dark. Heading down this stair well lead to another small room where several bed roles along with supplies at unattended.
○ Looting the room, they noticed several footprints end at the back wall. Everyone looked puzzled until Adran said that it was a secret door and seemed exasperated (everyone rolled low and elf thought the secret door was obvious).
○ Opening the door, they found another hall which ended in a dead end. However, careful perusal revealed a small gap almost like an outline around the dead end wall. Pushing on it, they felt it move slightly.
○ Groot and Brandis started to push the stone block. As it moved further and further, the group noticed scrape marks on the floor and walls as if the block had been moved before.
○ Eventually a darkened stairway appeared on the right of the hall. Pushing the stone just past the opening, the group stopped and looked down the stairs.
○ Several of the group headed slowly down the stairs keeping an eye out for danger. Unfortunately, some of them did not move and suddenly the stone block started moving back up the hallway.
○ After mere moments the cause of the movement was seen, a large stone ogre. Brandis and Groot were not fast enough and got stuck on the other side of the stone block. The ogre pushed it all the way back to its original location and then headed back to its pedestal at the end of the hall.
○ Brandis and Groot pushed it back down the hall and the Ari placed spikes in the wall. The stone ogre again tried to push the block, but failed and stopped.
○ Feeling their egress was protected, the group headed further in to the crypts. Entering a small chamber with three halls heading out in the cardinal directions.
○ After a short discussion, the group decided to head counter-clockwise and so headed to their right.
○ Entering another small chamber, they found a dusty crypt with a casket carved from petrified wood resting atop a white marble slab. A small plate on the slab was inscribed with Gaston Ambergul.
○ Opening the casket, they found lots of dust and a few bone fragments as well as gold ceremonial armor over a long decayed skeleton. At its feet sat an ebony coffer.
○ Looting the casket, they looked around the chamber some more before moving down the hall to their left.
○ They found a green wood casket sitting on a marble slab in the middle of the crypt. There was also a frame portrait of a woman wearing golden tiara and a white wedding gown. The inscription read Olivine Ambergul.
○ Opening the casket, they found only an electrum jewelry box and no corpse of any kind. Again, after looting the casket and doing some searching, they moved to their left down and hall and into another small crypt.
○ This crypt was unusual because the ebony casket which rested atop a marble slab had been smash to flinders. Perched on four shelves in each corner sat a gargoyle and a large oval mirror.
○ As they started to search the room, a loud screech was heard and a ghost with one arm far larger than the other appeared and started attacking them.
○ After a deadly battle which saw many members of the group almost go down, the ghost was dissipated with a whimper.
○ Mari looked at the different mirrors while others searched the room. She found them to reek with strong abjuration magic determining that only force would destroy the mirrors.
○ About this time, the rest of the group had discovered a small cavity and pried it open to find a sliver chest with goodies. They all looked up as Mari started to destroy each mirror one by one.
○ As the last mirror shattered, a heavy sigh could be heard in the chamber as if a great weight had been lifted from a tormented soul.
○ Looking around the room, they found a small hall filled with red mist.
○ After discussing it for a bit, they tied some rope to Groot and he headed down the hall and came upon three stones with runes on them. Pressing one, nothing happened, so he decided to press another.
○ To Groot, the runes on the stones changed, but to the others the rope went slack and fell to the floor. What happened to Groot and where could he be…

Timeline of Events

Rova the 24th
• Early Morning
○ Entering the graveyard, they followed the overgrown track for about fifty feet where another overgrown track crossed over it heading in both directions.
○ After searching for tracks, Adran was able to just make out some faint boot tracks continuing on the current trail. These were almost drowned out by the large number of bare feet with claws going in many different directions.
○ They continued on the same trail and headed deeper in to the fog shrouded graveyard. The overgrown grave markers kept them on alert as they appeared out of the fog. It seemed like a trick of their, but some of them seemed to move. Finally, several did move as Ghouls attacked from behind several tombstones.
○ Our heroes were too much for the ghouls and defeated them rather handily even with the ambush. Searching the area, Mari found a grave covered with boughs and grass which revealed a hole instead of the normal grave.
○ Checking inside they saw a tunnel heading off from the grave and so Groot decided to jump in and follow it along with Mari. They followed the tunnel for a short way until they came upon a small room, really a burrow, with two cadaverous creatures which attacked them.
○ These creatures were much more difficult and one was able to trip Groot while the other would attempt to eviscerate him. It was difficult for his companions to help given the cramped space they were in. To make matters worse, after a short while two ghouls came from a crossing tunnel behind the group.
○ After a tough fight which saw Groot take some heavy damage, the group prevailed over the ghouls and their hounds.
○ They followed the tunnel the ghouls came from and eventually discovered a small room with several open coffins and partially eaten remains. Looking over the remains, they decided the teeth marks looked similar to those found at the destroyed caravan. However, no iron was found.
○ Continuing on, the entered a larger chamber where several more open coffins lay and several bodies were being feasted on by more ghouls. Surprising the ghouls, the adventurers got the drop on them and after a relatively quick battle with lots of cool daily effects (they were about to level up, such meta-gaming :)), the ghouls were defeated.
○ Searching the chamber, they found a lot of gold coins in amongst several piles of bones and they discovered a suit of scale male on one of the bodies in a coffin. The scale male turned out to be magical.
○ Having went through the whole place and finding no other tunnels down, but a couple out, they headed back out in to the night.
○ Continuing their trek down the trail, they eventually came upon another even more overgrown stone wall that seemed to mark a transition in the graveyard. The markers and small crypts on the other side of the wall seemed even more overgrown and even more difficult to read. Many were even crumbling apart.
○ As they started to enter this new area of the graveyard, the area became eerily silent and more ghouls attacked with their nasty hounds.
○ The adventurers fought valiantly against heavy odds as they kept getting paralyzed by the ghouls and tripped by the hounds. It was touch and go for a moment until Brandis and Morfear were able to turn the tide, one with extremely powerful radiant attacks and the other with his healing words.
○ Almost too late in the battle, Morfear realized he had the ability to harm the undead with the power of his god and was able to destroy even more of them rather quickly.
○ An already exhausted party bound their wounds waiting for the sun to rise or the next attack to come…

Timeline of Events

Rova the 9th
• Morning
○ The adventurers headed down the left tunnel about fifty feet before reaching another bricked up dead end. This one looked newer and right as Groot was about to knock it down, Mari found some writing on, ‘Fiori, May He Rest in Peace.’
○ Deciding not to potentially disturb the dead (see they have learned something), they headed back down the tunnel and continued in the other direction for about one hundred feet where they reached a Y.
○ Heading to the left again, they continued for about three hundred feet before deciding to turn back. Reaching the Y, they headed down the other side for about one hundred feet before finding some tunnels to the left and the right.
○ Heading down the left tunnel, they quickly came upon a wooden door. Listening at the door, they heard nothing and so headed inside after finding the door unlocked.
○ Inside they found several stacks of supplies, crates with glassware, sacks of grains and minerals, and a barrel of black powder.
○ They also discovered a locked trunk. Opening the trunk, they found four potions. There was some discussion about stealing these items from an unknown someone, but they decided they could always pay them back if necessary.
○ After searching that room, they headed to the other tunnel and followed it to a stone wall. Searching the wall, the discovered it slid to the side. On the other side was a small cellar which looked to be a potion maker’s lab.
○ They started looking around before hearing footsteps heading toward the door to the basement. They tried to flee back out of the tunnel steathily, but Morfear tripped causing a loud noise.
○ They were able to get the secret door closed and several of them headed back down the tunnel, but Ari and Brandis stayed behind waiting. After a few moments, door slid open and an elder gentlemen stared at them in surprise.
○ They spoke with the man and determined he was Aliver the potion maker of the Pillbug’s Potions. He explained that he had created an extra storeroom after finding some tunnels.
○ Ari decided to give him back one of the potions they had found and they bid him adieu before heading back down the tunnels to the general store.
• Midday
○ Gathering their supplies from Ven, they headed to their rendezvous with Halavar at the temple grounds.
○ Arriving, they discovered two wagons, one a flatbed style wagon with a canvas over some crates and the other a room on wheels.
○ Halavar had two drivers, a grizzled dwarf named Vorin, and a stout bald man named Stark. Introductions out of the way, the caravan started out down the Lost Coast road headed toward Ravenmoor.
○ They spent the rest of the day traveling along the Lost Coast road. For the first hour, they greeted various farmers and shepherds on their way to and from Sandpoint, but after that they had the road to themselves.
○ Stopping for the night, they set up camp and watches and Adran went hunting for deer. The first day of their duty in the books.

Rova the 10th
○ They headed out at the crack of dawn and continued along the Lost Coast road.
○ About mid-afternoon, they came up the remains of a destroyed caravan marked with the symbol of the Sandpoint Merchant League.
○ Searching through the wreckage, they found several bodies, some burned, and some partially eaten. Those partially eaten looked as if they were being eaten by humans. They also found the caravan log from which they determined the caravan was hauling iron from Riddleport.
○ While Ari and the group gathered the dead and placed them on a funeral pyre, Adran was able to find two sets of tracks leaving from the area. One was a set of wagon tracks heading to the southwest while the other was bare, clawed feet heading in a similar direction, but at a later time.
○ The caravan continued on until near dusk. They camped where the road twisted away from the coast and started to head inland.

Rova the 11th/12th
○ The group traveled the Lost Coast road through the plains northeast of Sandpoint towards Galduria.

Rova the 13th
○ The caravan reached the town of Galduria. As they approached the town, they noticed a tower on a hill overlooking it. Halavar mentioned it was the Twilight Academy and the adventurers should avoid it.
○ They headed through the town and camped on the north side. While Halavar went to try to sell some of his wares., Ari went to the local constabulary and reported the destruction of the caravan on the road. The constable seemed indifferent to its destruction.
○ Ari then headed to a local tavern while Morfear found an inn to sleep in. Ari started asking around about the Twilight Academy and the local populace immediately started to clam up. Pressing it, he found himself talking with the local constable again who told him to move along and leave the town. Not wanting to get in to trouble, he headed back out of town.
○ Halavar returned to report that people weren’t buying and when he learned Ari had been asking about the tower he got upset.

Rova the 14th
○ The caravan left early in the morning and passed through Wolf’s Ear late in the day. They spent the night camped close to Wolf’s Ear but decided to stay out of the small fishing village.

Rova the 15th
○ The caravan traveled down the dirt track through increasingly wild lands.

Rova the 16th
• Mid-Afternoon
○ The caravan reaches the outskirts of the village of Ravenmoor. Halavar stops the caravan on a hill overlooking the village. He tells the group to get a good night’s rest. Tonight is the Founder’s Feast and they will head in to the village in the morning to purchase the wine.
○ The group sets up the camp and asks Halavar about the village and the feast. He mentions the people are even more strange and insular than Galduria and that something strange happened the last time he had been to the feast.
• Evening
○ As night fell, they adventurers could hear the sounds of music and laughter float over from the village. Looking down there, they saw the light of several bonfires lighting up the town. Curiosity got the better of Mari, Groot, and Morfear and they headed to the village to see the feast.
○ They arrived at the river to find a ferry crossing. Taking the ferry across they entered the village and headed to the main green where many tables were set up.
○ Welcomed to the festivities, they were seated at a table and food was placed before them. Amongst the roast pig, vegetables, and breads, they discovered several strange items: a platter of chitinous legs similar to crab legs, fried silkworms, black mushrooms, a salad made of flayleaves (basically marijuana), and a strange blood sausage.
○ Eventually Mari tried the blood sausage and found it to be quite good. Eventually Mari and Groot tried everything except for the flayleaf salad with mixed results.
○ They noticed that several girls from the village were going to the center of the green and reciting some kind of poem. Eventually they realized the poem was about the founding of the village. When all of the stanzas had been spoken, the village elders picked a raven haired girl as the winner and crowned her Founder’s Feast Queen.
○ At about this time, Mari and Morfear decided to head back to the camp. Groot stayed behind and the raven-haired girl approached and started flirting with him.
○ After about an hour of talking and dancing, she invited him back to a barn. Groot destroyed some of the doors of the barn before heading inside with her. She coaxed him up the stairs in the hayloft.
○ Sensing something was wrong, Groot ran and jumped out of a window, noticing a large figure attempting to hit him with a club. He landed awkwardly, but was able to hustle to some bushes and hide.
○ He stayed hidden and heard the girl and a large man come out of the barn talking about how she “didn’t want to be the sacrifice” and that they would “have to kill them all now.”
○ Groot high tailed it back to the ferry where he found the ferry man on the opposite side. Ringing the bell, he turned back to find the large man coming down the road. The man seemed to grow in size and his face just melted to a blankness.
○ Deciding not to wait, Groot dove in to the river and started swimming. Making it across he started running up the road shouting, “Help! Help!”
○ The rest of the group heard him and came down to the river where they saw the ferryman on the other side. Calling him across, they asked him if he had seen a large man. The ferryman mentioned he had not and had wondered why Groot had dived in to the river instead of waiting for the ferry. Groot insisted he was not drunk or hallucinating, but the adventurers left it alone for the time being.
○ Ari paid the ferryman a copper and the group headed back to camp where they kept a very alert watch the rest of the night.

Rova the 17th
○ Much of the group went with Halavar in to the village to collect the casks of wine. They noticed a barn with broken doors in the process of being fixed, but the raven-haired girl was nowhere to be seen.
○ They eventually reached a house just outside of the village with red-tinge grape vines with grapes the size of golf-balls. Collecting the wine, they transferred out of the village and the caravan got underway.

Rova the 19th
○ The caravan passed back through Wolf’s Ear in the late morning.

Rova the 20th
○ They reach Galduria and Halavar is able to sell some of the wine and other items as the adventurers stay out of town.

Rova the 23rd
• Late-Afternoon
○ The caravan arrives back in Sandpoint. Halavar thanks them for the time, pays them a 25gp bonus and mentions he may have more work for them in the future.
○ As they are packing up there stuff, the adventurers are approached by a young girl laden with child. She asks them to meet her near the Old Light at dusk as it is important. They agree and she heads off as quickly as she approached.
○ Heading to the Black Stag, the inn keeper mentions they have a message from Jaspar looking to talk with them.
○ The group heads to the League office where they find Jaspar. He mentions there was another more bold theft at the lumber mill and he would like to hire them to look in to it. After negotiating, he is willing to pay them 50gp for information leading to an arrest. He pays them 5gp up front.
○ Ari then tells Jaspar about the destroyed caravan. Jaspar thinks the two things might be related and asks them to see if they can find the cargo. As they head out, Jaspar mumbles something about having to tell Korvut about the iron.
○ Since they are to meet the girl near the Old Light, they head over to see if Brodert has made any progress.
○ They knock on the door and find a bleary-eyed Brodert quickly ushering them inside. He has translated both items.
○ He tells them the inscription from the obelisk:
The Tyrant shall rise
Under a Moon red as Blood
Death shall be his form

○ And the object:
Sacrifice for Life
○ He also tells them a little bit about Tar-Baphon, the Whispering Tyrant and his tomb in Gallowspire. He suggests they talk more with Ilsoari at the orphanage as he may know more and can maybe determine when the next Blood Moon will occur.
○ They give Brodert the amulet they had found and he dodders off to start looking it over and see if he can figure anything else about it.
• Dusk
○ Leaving Brodert’s, they headed over to the Old Light and find the young girl, Onya. She tells them that her baby-daddy has been missing for more than two weeks after he mentioned he was going to get a bunch of treasure from an old manor near the Paupers Graves.
○ Answering questions, she mentions Assaran had provided her with a ‘bubdow’, a mid-wife who helped and who also went missing around the same time. She is now concerned because the woman’s face is on a wanted poster. Yes, it is Darwa.
○ The adventurers assure the girl they would find Assaran and the girl heads off.
○ The adventurers decided to head to the graveyard an hour before sunrise and head to bed early.

Rova the 24th
• Early Morning
○ The adventurers hike the three miles to the Paupers Graves. Arriving at the old graveyard, they stand under the iron gates and survey the fog enshrouded mausoleums and tombstones debated whether or not they should have gotten here before the sun rose…

Timeline of Events

Rova the 8th
• Late-Afternoon
○ Having found what looked to be a secret tunnel, the adventurers entered to explore it.
○ They immediately find some mining equipment and determine this large tunnel looks to be trying to break in to the basement.
○ They noticed a smaller tunnel, almost like a burrow, leading off from the main tunnel. The burrow was about three feet in diameter and led off from the main tunnel.
○ Ari lit a torch and explored down the tunnel. After a short way it twisted and turned. Some squeaking could be heard. He decided to back out from the burrow.
○ They continued up the main tunnel and found a hall heading to their left. This hall leads to an unlocked door.
○ Inside the room was a barrel of water and a broken barrel. Nothing else seemed to be present in the room.
○ Another small burrow was found leading from the small offshoot hall. Following this one led again to various curves.
○ Eran sees some rats in the first tunnel and it ducks back in.
○ Ari head downs the second tunnel and finds it to be similar to the first one and twists after a little bit. He continues on and reaches another bend in the tunnel. Morfear hears something else in the tunnel, something that is not a rat.
○ Morfear collapses the one tunnel and is about to collapse another tunnel when he notices something which is not a rat looking from around a tunnel corner. The floors and the wall around it is moving. Groot takes a look down the tunnel and realizes there are a lot of rats and mice swarming around a kobold.
○ Morfear collapses the first tunnel.
○ The group heads back in to the basement and set up a deadfall trap over the burrow tunnel in the basement.
○ Ari heads upstairs and talks with Ven about the danger in the basement. Ven asks them about the rats in the basement and Ven seems very concerned about the danger.
○ Morfear then asks more about Ven’s history. Ven and his family have been in the area since the founding of Sandpoint. Most of the items in the cellar are out of season items.
○ Morfear then broaches money for removing the problem. Ven says they would get a 5% discount. Morfear tries to shame Ven in to paying more. Ven eventually goes to a 5% discount for the next month and Ari herds everyone back down in to the cellar.
○ Groot heard some scraping at the collapsed burrow.
○ Morfear sees a rat from the open burrow and tries to kill it, but it gets away before he can get his spell off.
○ Mari pokes her sword through the dirt to see how far it can go through.
○ The group discusses their options while the rats continue to burrow through the collapsed tunnels.
○ Morfear tries to figure out where the tunnels are in relation to the city above and the drawn map they have.
○ They search around in the store room a little more and check for footprints other than theirs. They find some tracks well up the hewn tunnel.
○ After all of this, they discover the rats have dug back through the collapsed tunnels. Ari heads up the burrow near the store room and heads in further than before and finds what looks to be a den of sorts and several rats swarms which attack.
○ A long battle with the rats starts with Ari and Groot backing out of the tunnels while fighting off the swarms. Eventually, they make it out and the kobold shows up in the main tunnel with more swarms.
○ The party defeats the swarms, but the kobold ducks back in to the warrens. Ari follows the kobold in as Mari follows the other tunnel to try to trap them.
○ Morfear attempts to dig through the store room wall and collapses a portion of the store room as well as the burrow on the other side.
○ The party makes it into another rat den and finally confronts the kobold and some more rat swarms. They defeat the rat swarms and the kobold while Mari is wandering the rest of the burrow.
○ They search the burrow and find loose change, a belt, and a staff on a dead and picked over skeleton.
• Evening
○ They head back up in to the store and show the body to Ven and tell him they are coming back to explore the passage. Ven provides them with the rope they wanted and agrees to not tell the authorities until they have had a chance to search the tunnel.
○ They head back to the Black Stag to meet up with Halavar Trask to go over the caravan job.
○ Halavar seems somewhat impressed by the size of the group and offers them the job. He increases the fee to 100gp for the trip and then heads out to start preparing after telling them to meet the caravan by the temple at mid-day.
○ The group heads up to bed where they quickly fall asleep.

Rova the 9th
• Morning
○ In the morning, they decide to do a little bit of exploring of the tunnels before meeting Halavar at the temple.
○ On the way there, a couple of them (Mari and Groot) went by way of Hannah Verelin’s herb shop to see if they could get some information on the whereabouts of the items needed to remove Groot’s curse.
○ They found Hannah’s door locked and the house silent. A passer-by mentions she had already headed out to gather herbs and probably wouldn’t be back until evening.
○ The group continued on and headed to the store where they purchased some items for their caravan trip such as food, torches, rope, etc.
○ They then descended back in to the tunnels to explore them further.
○ Heading up the tunnel, they eventually found a passage heading off to the left off the main tunnel. Following this tunnel led to a dead end where a brick wall had been erected. Looking over the wall, they noticed it seemed to be somewhat old.
○ Heading back to the main tunnel, they continued on until they reached another tunnel heading off on the left. Which way will our stout adventurers go…
