• Evening
○ Groot had struck up a conversation with the local blacksmith, one Das Korvut. Das mentioned something about a shipment of iron coming from Riddleport that seemed to be running a little late. He had ordered the iron because business had been rather brisk as of late.
○ Groot also talked with a merchant very briefly, by the name of Halastar Trask. Trask needed guards for his caravan trip to Ravenmoor. It would be for there and back. He said he would like to meet the rest of the group on the morrow and left.
○ Groot and Eran continued to lounge and drink.
○ Meanwhile, Mari was busy getting herself in trouble. A rather large man entered the bar and bumped in to her saying she should watch where she was standing. She caused some beer to be poured on his head prompting a bar fight that lasted for only a brief amount of time as Morfear pulled a weapon and attacked one of the men’s accomplices. The group quickly left after Grindle ordered them out.
○ Getting back to the Black Stag, they talked briefly with Groot and Eran before everyone took to their beds.

Rova the 8th
• Morning
○ Waking in the morning, the group learned they had a summons to the town council scheduled for that afternoon. Not sure what they had done wrong, they seemed a bit concerned.
○ This prompted them to head over to the temple and see what the priest had discovered (and maybe atone for any misdeeds ;))
○ Again they met Nualia, and Ari tried to make friends with her. She led them to Ezakien and then was excused to her morning prayers.
○ Ezakien questioned if they had disturbed the dead and finally cornered Groot about opening sarcophagi as the curse he had acquired was from an ancient sun-god religion dedicated to Mithras and was reserved for would be grave-robbers.
○ Convinced they had good intentions, Ezakien revealed that the curse itself would slowly make Groot more and more susceptible to sunlight to the point where being out in it too long would kill him. But there was hope, he could reverse the curse, but required four items, a holy symbol to Mithras, a black moss called Midnight Moss, a strand of Dark Spidersilk, and a curshed mineral called Shadovar Salt.
○ Unfortunately, Ezakien didn’t know where they could get these items, but directed them to the local herbalist, Hannah Verelin.
○ After instructing them to atone for any mis-deeds, the group headed out .
• Mid-Morning
○ They decided they still had time to explore more of the Old Light before their meeting with the council and headed to Brodert’s place.
○ He mentioned he had found out only that the script from the obelisk mentioned something about a blood moon when he was asked if he had made any progress.
○ They gather up Brodert and took him to the room below the ruins where he started to transcribe runes and make rubbings are various carvings. Morfear, Groot, and a couple others watched over him while Ari, Mari, and Adran scaled the outside of the tower.
○ Reaching the top of the tower, they lowered Adran in to the inside where a large bit of the tower had fallen in. Unfortunately, Ari lost his grip and Adran dropped the last fifteen feet in to the rubble.
○ Meanwhile, Morfear had been checking out the stability of the room and was warning everyone to get back when a portion of the wall in the center chamber gave way (due to the falling form of Adran above) demolishing the door in to the hall where Brodert was currently transcribing.
○ Not knowing whether Brodert was alive or dead, Ari, Mari, and Adran quickly descended back down. Ari and Mari then scaled the ropes they had left previously to get back to the other entrance inside.
○ Inside, they discovered a very groggy Brodert in the rubble. They escorted him out (and he got some more drawings and rubbings) and then lowered him to the bottom of the cliff where they accidentally dropped him again, knocking him out cold.
○ Mari carried him back up and Morfear stabilized the man. They took him back to his home and set him up in front of a fire while he continued to look at his new drawings and rubbings. As they left, they overheard him mumbling about runes and Thassilon.
• Early-Afternoon
○ Feeling they had gotten in enough trouble, the group headed to the Town Hall for their meeting with the Council.
○ Arriving a little early, they were met by a guard who took them in to the main council chamber. Inside, the four member council sat at one end as they approached.
○ To their relief, the council wanted to thank them for their service to the city and the council itself for helping them drive away Arvik during the botched hanging.
○ They mentioned that Arvik seemed more connected to the area as he seemed to be involved in the dragon attack on Scarnetti Hall.
○ Kendra then broached the subject of them looking in to whether or not Arvik was truly dead and if not if they could discover his whereabouts.
○ Mari talked about setting up a business in town and asked about taxes and property. Kendra mentioned she could properly grease some wheels.
○ Ari mentioned that Arvik might be quite powerful and also mentioned about creating a mercenary service. He was curious about the amount of time this might take.
○ Kendra mentioned a retainer and reporting to Jaspar.
○ Kendra mentioned about the items from the Rusty Dragon.
○ Kendra then took them to the back and discussed with them that she had reason to believe that someone in Sandpoint might be in collusion with Arvik as he was recommended by a local herbalist named Darwa Dalion.
○ Mari mentioned the name Darwa was found in the necromancer tower.
○ Darwa was brought here by Titus Scarnetti and so that is why she didn’t want to discuss this in front of the rest of the council.
○ Mention that there is a reward for Darwa capture and mentions that Darwa was very helpful.
○ Mari and the group share what they have currently found about the necromancer paraphernalia in the Old Light with the mayor.
○ She shows them the items from the room, a leather bound book, an ornate dagger and bowl, a piece of stone with Thassilonian runes, and lastly a map of the region with marked locations and a different language than they have seen before.
○ They check the various items for magic and discover the book to be steeped in necromantic magic. The dagger and the bowl look a little rusty, but not really very magically.
○ Mari bleeds on the stone and nothing happens. Mari also opens the book to the first page which shows what looks like a magical circle of some sort and is written in an unknown language. The further she flips through the book, the colder her hands become and the room seems to get darker and darker. When she closes the book, everyone feels like a weight has been lifted.
○ Ari asks about checking his room out in the Rusty Dragon. Kendra agrees to help them get in to the room.
○ Ari asked about more altars and Kendra doesn’t know anything else about that.
○ They head out and take the evidence with them as well as the first weeks retainer.
• Mid-Afternoon
○ After talking with the council, they head back to the Inn to discuss how they want to proceed.
○ After that discussion, Ari wanted to replace the ropes used on the Old Light and headed to the local general store.
○ Talking with the owner, one Ven Vinder, Ven would provide a better price on the ropes if the adventurers would take care of a small rat problem for him.
○ After very little haggling on the adventurers part (they really wanted to fight something it seems), Ven directed them downstairs in to the basement.
○ They noticed a few small rats scurry from their light as they entered the basement. There were several piles of crates and barrels in various parts of the basement.
○ Brandis used his elemental spirit to look at a portion of the basement and notices some rats, but not a lot, so the group headed to the corner and that’s when the swarm struck.
○ What they had been told was a small number of rats turned into a huge swarm that they quickly eradicated.
○ However, during the battle, they had noticed several rats come out of a small hole near some crates. Moving the crates, they noticed that they wall itself looked like it could be moved. Slowly opening it revealed a set of stairs that led down about five feet to a tunnel.
○ Where does this tunnel lead? Is it part of the tunnel system that seems to be implied by the map discovered in the Old Light? Find out next time as the adventurers head down in to the tunnels…

Timeline of Events

Rova the 7th
• Mid-Morning
○ Concerned over the possible curse on Groot, the heroes headed immediately to the Sandpoint temple to see if anyone there could help.
○ They found the temple to be a set of 6 shrines surrounding a group of seven standing stones. Each shrine was dedicated to a different god.
○ They were approached by an acolyte who asked them what they needed. Morfear asked after the high priest and the acolyte fetched Father Tobyn. Tobyn was a rotund man, but seemed very outgoing and friendly.
○ Morfear explained the situation and Father Tobyn took them to a chamber in the shrine of Desna where he spent almost 30 minutes examining Groot and saying various chants and prayers. His conclusion was that Groot was indeed afflicted with an ancient curse, but he would need some time to research the exact curse and how to remove it.
○ The group then asked the good Father about the Old Light and who might know anything about it. He directed them to Ilsoari a Wizard running the orphanage, Chask Haladan, the owner of a small book shop, and Brodert Quink, the crackpot sage who lives next to the Old Light and has some crazy theories.
○ The group then asked about decent accommodations and were directed to the Black Stag (formerly the Black Deer and the White Deer depending on the addled state of the DMs mind).
○ As the adventurers left to go to the Black Stag, they noticed an extremely beautiful woman, really a girl, examining the stones in the courtyard between shrines. Father Tobyn greeted her as Nualia and motioned for her to join him for her studies. As she passed the adventurers, she kept her eyes down. Mari felt there was something otherworldly about her beauty, but couldn’t put her finger on it.
• Noon
○ Making their way to the Black Stag, which was not far from the temple, the adventurers found a decently maintained Inn/Tavern on the northern edge of town. A carving of a black stag was found over the door. Heading inside, they noticed the interior was in a much better state than the Rusty Dragon. A large man worked behind the bar counter and a pretty young girl was seen moving between the tables which had patrons (all two of them). She beckoned them in and told them to find a spot.
○ As the group settled in, the barmaid told them about what food was available and took their drink order (multiple beers, a tea for Groot, and wine for Mari). After she left, the group started discussing what to do next. The consensus was to start their own agency to find jobs instead of being beholden to the League.
○ The barmaid brought their food and drink, and they continued their discussion about whether they should buy out their contracts (a total of 10gp each to do so) and decided that would be best. Finally, after paying (1gp for all of the food and Groot tipped 1sp), they asked the barmaid about rooms and she directed them to her father behind the bar.
○ He gave them a per person rate of 1sp per day and when they asked about a week rate, he quoted 5sp paid up front. They also discussed with him about business licenses and property in town. Lastly, they asked if it was ok to do business dealings in the common room. They took four rooms and dropped off their stuff before heading out to end their employment with the League.
• Early Afternoon
○ Heading through the streets of Sandpoint, they noticed the town was quite busy this day. They reached the Sandpoint Mercantile League office without incident and headed inside where the page greeted them and alerted Jaspar of their presence.
○ Entering the back office, they found Jaspar lost in thought, but he greeted them as they came in. Asking what he was thinking about, he mentioned that a caravan from Riddleport had not arrived, but had been expected to be here when he got back from the Hall. He seemed worried, but mentioned the particular caravan had been late in the past.
○ The group got straight to the point and told Jaspar they were going to buy out their contracts and strike out on their own. He understood and didn’t try to stop them.
○ They asked about the thieves taking League items and found out that nothing had been found there. They asked about a reward for finding out about that.
○ He mentioned he might need to hire them for things in the near term while he waited for new recruits from Magnimar, but wished them luck.
• Mid-Afternoon
○ After leaving Jaspar, the group headed to the Old Light to look into it.
○ They approached the last house on the left and knocked on his door. An elder man opened the door a crack and asked them what they wanted.
○ Mari asked him about looking at the obelisk runes. He got suspicious and asked if Ilsoari sent them and they mentioned the priest. They showed him the runes and he invited them inside. Inside they found a house full of shelves of books, papers, and scrolls.
○ Inside, he looked over the runes and determined they were Thassilonian. He mentions that some of the runes are definitely Thassilonian and points out life, death, great battle, and rebirth. He mentions that some are unknown to him.
○ They mention the obelisk in the swamp and Brodert is intrigued and asks questions about it including if they would make him a map. They mention goblins and dragons and an abandoned temple to a sun god. Brodert goes off track and talks about the god Aroden and his death as well as he was the one true god of the Chelaxians and that they now worship devils.
○ He mentions he could research the script and try to determine what it says. They mention they are going in to the Old Light to look for ghosts and then the Sandpoint Devil and he discounts the myth as something to keeps kids in doors at night. He has not found any evidence for the devil, but that he lives up and down the beach, supposedly.
○ They mention fires in the Old Light and he goes on and on about his theory that the Old Light is a war machine for an ancient empire. He talks about how the runes on the Old Light talk about fire. He mentions a potential garrison at the tower.
○ He has looked over the ruins, but has yet to find an entrance in to them. He suspects there is something there, but has been unable to find it over the last few years.
○ They then show him a rubbing of the runes on the amulet and he seems to think the adventurers are holding something back from him as he says having the actual object may aid in the translation, but will try to decipher both.
○ They then ask about the Thassilonian Empire and he gives them information about that empire being run by a Wizard-King and when he died his empire broke up into seven smaller empires.
• Late Afternoon
○ The group heads out to the Old Light and starts searching around for any kind of entrances in to possible rooms beneath or within the tower.
○ Eventually, Ari discovered what looked to be a cave entrance on the side of the cliff. He decides to climb down there and makes it the entrance and finds it is a hewn out hall as if it just fell away in to the ocean.
○ He calls out and everyone else starts trying to climb over to the entrance. Mari bangs in pitons as she heads over to help make it easier for others.
○ When Groot attempts to make it over he slips off the rope, but catches himself and is able to climb up. Morfear runs into the same problem as does Eran, but eventually with some scrapes and close calls everyone makes it to the opening and into the hall.
○ Inside, the group finds a hall leading about twenty feet off in to the darkness before it turns to the left.
○ Heading down the hall and round the corner, they come up against a stone door with an iron ring set on the right side. There are very faded runes and carvings on the door. Too faded to make out.
○ Opening the door leads to a small 20×20 room with a set of stairs heading up and turning left on the far side. There are several piles of rubble and dust and one that looks like it might be the remains of some sort of weapons stand, but it is very rusted.
○ Following the stairs the head up around two left turns and reach another stone door. This door has runes and such on it as well as an iron ring.
○ Opening this door leads to a room with a curved wall on the right and a straight wall on the left with a door in it. This door has even more easily seen carvings and runes and there are mosaics on the walls which aren’t destroyed. Mari takes the time to make a rubbing of the runes on the door and a brief sketch of the mosaic on the wall.
○ Finding nothing but rubble in this room, the adventurers open the door in to what seems to be a hall leading left. Most of the wall on the right side is fallen in on itself, but there is door at the other end of the approximately 50’ hall. The walls that do remain, again have a similar set of mosaics and carvings.
○ They head to the other door and find this one to be different than the previous two. On this door instead of an iron ring, they see a five point star carved in the place where the ring would be. Confused, they check the other doors and see they had a similar carving on the back side. After some confusion and false starts, Groot finally pushes with his hand on the carving and the door opens in to a room.
○ In this room, they find signs of recent use with a couple of tables, a fire pit, and what looks to be a wizards circle of some sort. Unfortunately, as they headed in to the room several small skeletons rise from around the circle and attack.
○ The skeletons seemed to be a distraction as they were easily blown apart, but suddenly several Ghouls appear from various hiding places around the room. The adventurers fight hard and prevail against this new threat.
○ Searching the room after the battle, the adventurers find a map which seems to imply there are tunnels beneath Sandpoint with an entrance northeast of Sandpoint. They also find several papers asking for a status report on the materials for “completing the ritual”. They are all addressed to a Darwa and signed by the Tyrant’s Servant. Mari also notices some burned bits of paper in the fire pit, but they are too far gone to be of any use.
○ They also discovered a hidden exit from the room which leads out to the base of the tower on the southern side. Now seeing where the exit comes out, they can see how they might have missed it.
○ They then headed back to Brodert’s and told him about the room underneath and the possibility of a necromancer there. He mentions that might explain some flickering lights seen around the tower walls. They also show him the new rubbings and tell him they will take him over to see the entrance and the room in the morning.
• Evening
○ The group heads back to the Black Stag and freshens up before having dinner. The common room has filled up considerably with different craftsmen, merchants, and guildsmen. The group talks a bit and Mari, Ari, and Morfear decide to head to the taverns on the docks while Eran and Groot stay at the Black Stag and Adran decides to go out in to the forest and meditate.
○ Groot starts talking with the local blacksmith Das Korvut and Eran seems to be intent on catching the eye of the pretty bar maid as the others leave.
○ Mari, Ari, and Morfear head down to the docks and decide to go to the Fatman’s Feedbag. Inside, they find a completely different clientele. This set of people are dockworkers, day laborers, and the more downtrodden of the town.
○ However, they notice one person in the back of the tavern who seems a little more sure of himself and surveys the din almost as if it is his court. Mari decides to try to get his attention by walking by and looking a bit flirty. The man gives her a nod, but moves on. However, she is recognized by a farmer as one of the people helping out with Arvik a few days previously. The guy gives them a calculated appraising look at that.
○ Ari listens to the talk around him which revolves around how stormy it has been lately. This is causing hardship with the fishing and the farming. The dockworkers seem flush with coin, so there must be a lot of trade going through Sandpoint. Not a lot about the thefts except for a couple talking about the League thefts. There are some complaints about the amount of people immigrating from Magnimar. These people are trying to get jobs as farmhands, loggers, etc. and are staying in the seedier inns like the Rusty Dragon.
○ Mari starts talking to guys about building an office and taking jobs. They learn there is a rumour they killed a dragon. She tells them they trained the dragon instead. He likes the fact they might be around as it makes the town seem more secure.
○ She asks about lumber to see if she can get some cheap lumber. The man recommends talking with Camlo Inovi about getting some lumber. She keeps checking about what that guy is doing as she does this to see if maybe he is intrigued by her questions…

Rova the 4th
• Late Evening
○ As Mari and Adran tend to the watch, suddenly a lizardfolk bursts in to their campsite. Looking around bewilderly, the characters recognized him as Wrecan. No sooner came the recognition when in to the camp burst the Wyrmling.
○ The rest of the night passes without incident.
Rova the 5th
• Morning
○ Talking with Wrecan, the group learns that Vethka has some sort of plan for when they return. They also learn of a different way to get in to the caverns via the river.
○ The adventurers talk it over and decide to follow Wrecan to the river entrance.
○ After two and a half hours of travel, the group arrived at the entrance to the cavern system beneath the temple. They spent the next 30 minutes making sure there were no other lizardfolk in the area and checking to make sure Wrecan hadn’t led them astray.
○ Eventually, Ari and Adran steathily entered the caverns with the rest of the group several hundred feet behind.
○ The group followed the river through various small caverns until they reached the waterfall near the dragon shrine.
○ Ari and Adran did some look out duties before determining there were no lizardfolk in the room. Even the dead from the previous day had been cleaned up. Adran went back and got the rest of the party while Ari climbed down and headed for the secret door behind the statue.
○ Morfear, Groot and the Wyrmling kept watch at the entrance to the temple crypts while the rest of the group entered the secret room. Inside the room, Ari was especially careful and fired some sling stones about to verify there was nothing. All they found was a pile of refuse.
○ Ari used one of this monk abilities to quickly disperse the pile of refuse and reveal a rotten chest. Inside the chest was many copper coins, a leather pouch, and a mud encrusted mirror.
○ Ari then opened the door on the western wall to find a hall leading off in to the darkness. Heading down the hall, it opened up to a bridge over the underground river heading west. Looking out from the bridge to the north, the river curved away to the west and a darkened opening in the cavern wall was seen. Looking south, the river curved to the east.
○ The group decided to cross the bridge to see what was on the other side. As the bulk of the people were on the bridge, Vethka sprung her trap and the bridge collapsed taking Eran, Optimus, and Wrecan in to the river. Looking down, the adventurers could see 4 blackscale lizardmen with great clubs having just smashed the bridge supports.
○ Let the battle commence!! Over the course of the battle, Mari, Ari, Brandis, Groot, and the Wyrmling jump down to the river to fight the blackscales. Eventually, some of them are carried to the opening in the north where Ari pulls Wrecan from the river and in to the cave. Eran eventually makes his way in to the cave.
○ From the cave, they could see what could only be Vethka and more lizardfolk warriors. Eran starts picking off the warriors while Ari heads to and engages Vethka.
○ After a fierce battle back by the collapsed bridge, the blackscales are defeated and Groot moves forward to help attack Vethka. She calls for the dragon to help her to no avail before she is killed by Eran.
○ After the battle, the adventurers looked in to the cave on the north and found a crystal clear pool. Mari decided to walk in to the pool and then filled her water skin and took a drink. She immediately started to break out in boils. Like the lizardfolk proving the water was poisoned. Brandis determined it was magically poisoned.
○ A debate was then kicked off about whether or not to remove Mari’s affliction now or to wait until after they had finished exploring the caverns. Eventually, exploring won out and the group headed to the main chamber where the river emptied into a large pool.
○ Arriving in the chamber, Thoss Fyurnen rose from the pool and confronted them. He was about to demand to know why they were there when the Wyrmling recognized the dragon and approached him. Thoss turned to the adventurers and talked to them about how they got the wyrmling and answered their questions about why he stole the altar. Given that his “egg” had been returned, he retrieved the altar for the adventurers and told them to go. He mentioned that a man named Arvik had asked him to steal it originally and he had declined until an egg had gone missing. The altar had split open from being thrown in to a heap on the floor, but there was a jade amulet inside with some runes on it.
○ The group alerted him to the poisoned spring to which he cursed someone. Feeling they had nothing to gain and were just making the dragon angry, the adventurers fled from the cavern back out to the shrine leaving Wrecan to deal with the dragon.
○ Again a debate occurred about whether to leave via the temple or leave via the river entrance. The river entrance won out and the group slogged its way through the river and back out in to the swamp.
• Afternoon
○ The adventurers slogged back through the swamp without incident passing by the obelisk where they compared the writing on it to the writing on the amulet. There was some similarity, but not enough to make any kind of sense of either.
• Evening
○ That evening while they camped, Morfear performed the remove affliction ritual on Mari and also determined that Groot had some kind of affliction on him as well. He completed the ritual on Mari and she was cured.
○ They were able to pass the night without incident.
Rova the 6th
• Mid-day
○ The adventurers finally cleared the swamp at mid-day and found an encampment of the guard from Scarnetti’s Hall. Meeting with Sergeant Durren, the Sergeant was glad to escort them back to Scarnetti Hall.
• Evening
○ Reaching the Hall at dusk, the adventurers met with Jaspar and gave a report on what had occurred. Jaspar chided them for enter the lair, but was relieved to find out the dragon was not a willing participant in the attack on the Hall. The group did not mention the amulet, but did mention that Arvik was behind the attack by stealing the dragon’s egg.
○ The adventurers stayed the night at Scarnetti Hall eager to head back to Sandpoint.
Rova the 7th
• Mid-Morning
○ Riding back with Jaspar, the group reached Sandpoint more experienced than when they left and more importantly, more wealthy than when they left. What will the future bring them…

Timeline of Events

Rova the 4th
• Evening
○ Creeping towards the cavern entrance, unfortunately, several of the adventurers knocked several large rocks down the last set of stairs alerting the lizardfolk to their presence. The shaman ordered her followers to attack.
○ A battle ensued where the adventurers entered into the large cavern to fight the greenscale lizardfolk and their blackscale allies. All of the lizardfolk had the strange boils on their skin and fought with the fervor of religious zealots.
○ During the battle, the wyrmling seemed confused and continued to sniff the air and act apprehensive. He would not respond to Morfear’s commands and wandered in to the underground river where it milled about in confusion. They also seemed to lose track of Wreckan, the lizardfolk mediator.
○ The tide of the battle switched back and forth several times before the adventurers prevailed. During the battle, the shaman had disappeared behind ad hoc statue of a dragon, leaving her followers to die at the hands of the adventurers.
○ Afterwards, Ari and Morfear looked over the statue and alcove behind it with Brandis. There they discovered a peephole in the alcove and a corresponding secret door. Meanwhile, Groot looted the bodies and found a potion of healing.
○ After this, the party seemed to have a lot of trouble deciding where to go. Mari and Groot wanted to climb the waterfall to see what was in the cavern above it. Brandis and Adran went across the river to look in the side chamber on the other side. Ari headed over to the secret door and implored the group to look in to the other room.
○ Groot had trouble climbing up the waterfall, so Mari scaled it and dropped down a rope which seemed to be too slippery fort Groot. About this time Morfear tried to figure out what was wrong with the dragon to no avail and Ari decided to meditate in the center of the cavern.
○ Ari was brought forth from his meditation by a shout from Adran who had entered the side chamber to get a better look at the fungus inside and had angered a group of fire beetles. Adran sore that he saw a small skeleton with a glint of metal on it.
○ The group, minus Mari who was in the cavern above, fought off the swarming fire beetles and checked out the skeleton. The dwarf skeleton seemed to have fallen long ago and was missing an arm. Inside of its clenched right fist, they discovered an iron coin which Morfear recognized as coming from the Ironhold Halls under Mosswood. Morfear recalled that the Ironaxe clan of dwarves had been assumed lost in the halls a couple centuries back.
○ The group finally decided to stick together and headed up the waterfall to the cavern beyond. They discovered the river continued on to the east and the ceiling continued to lower, but seemed to be passable. They also discovered a side passage which Adran stealthily snuck into and discovered a pile of offal with several green eggs. Trying to figure out what it could be, Groot bumbled his way in and discovered it to be the lair of a carrion crawler.
○ Yet another battle erupted as the crawler and several centipede swarms took affront at the intrusion into their home. After several back and forth rounds of combat with the crawler grabbing both Optimus and Groot and attempting to consume them in its lair, the adventurers prevailed.
○ Groot dug around in the mound of offal and discovered another potion. This one seems to be an acid resistance potion.
○ Hurting quite badly and exhausted from the ordeal so far, the group decided to head back up and out of the temple, but not before trying to get the elf statue to heal them again.
○ The elf recognized them this time and seem to not want to help them before finally heaping abuse on them and then casting spells on them. Unfortunately, the spells didn’t seem to work. Mari put two and two together and realized it was night outside and possibly the magic was tied to the sun.
○ Still exhausted and no better off than before, the party headed out in to the rainy night to find a defensible location where they could rest and recuperate…

Timeline of Events

Rova the 4th
• Late-Afternoon
○ Before heading deeper in to the temple, the group talked with Wrecan about what to expect on the next level. He told them it was largely unknown to him as the lizardfolk took a single route to the caves beyond.
○ The group descended and as the stairs headed down it got darker and darker and the smell of rotten eggs grew more pungent. The group switched from torches to the fire beetle glands remembering what had happened in the room on the upper floor.
○ The finally reached a long hall with three alcoves and six doors and the strong smell of rotten eggs. All of the alcoves held a shelf, but only two of the alcoves had a small statue on the shelf.
○ Groot became fascinated with the first door at the near end of the hall, so Mari and Morfear listened at the door to see if there was something on the other side. Hearing only running water, the group decided to break down the door. Groot led the way.
○ Inside the room was a running fountain with a dragon’s head spouting water in to a small basin. The group cautiously entered the room, checking all of the nooks and crannies for potential threats.
○ Mari checked the fountain for magic and detected an aura of conjuration. Mari then offered some of the water to Wrecan who declined. She then offered it to Groot who took a drink from the fountain and felt much refreshed as some of his wounds faded. Mari took some of the liquid and put it into a water skin for future use.
○ Checking around on the basin, they detected the outlets in the fountain and nothing else. Wrecan warned the group from taking the water from the temple as it would be defiling the temple.
○ Morfear then offered a prayer of thanks for the water to the sun god and then they headed back in to the hall.
○ They headed towards the other doors and noticed another statue similar to the dwarf in one of the alcoves. This one is human. Morfear decided to pour some of the water over the statue. Noticed there is no statue in the center alcove, and the last one had an elf statue.
○ They decided to get the dwarven statue from upstairs. Wrecan offered to go get it, but they decided to send Eran instead. They then set the dwarf statue in the empty alcove.
○ The group pondered the statues and then decided to seek out a statue for a halfling. They listened at the next door in the hall and heard nothing. Then they set Groot to the door where he broke it down.
○ Inside were 10 sarcophagi standing up against the wall. Each lid had the carved likeness of its denizen. There is a mix of elves(1), dwarves(3), humans(2), and halflings(4). They looked them over for magic and other things and found nothing until they noticed one of the sarcophagus looked like the dwarf statue.
○ Mari brought the dwarf statue to the room and they compared it to the carving. The likeness was very similar. Morfear then decides to open the sarcophagus as Mari backs out of the room. Inside is a desiccated mummy of dwarven size with some trinkets. He closes the sarcophagus.
○ Groot has an idea!! He takes the elf statue from the shelf and it animates and starts wailing extremely loudly for about 10 seconds and the stops animating. Groot takes it and the group upstairs and puts the elf on the altar upstairs. Mari takes the dwarf statue with her.
○ The elf animates and looks very angry and speaks to them in elvish accusing them of stealing and pillaging. He then heaps abused upon them for the better than a minute.
○ After a couple of minutes it stops and apologizes profusely before helping out by casting a spell on Groot to heal him. More of Groots wounds disappear.
○ They try to talk with the elf. Morfear talks with the elf and tells him about what they are trying to do. The elf accuses Wrecan of descrating the temple. They ask about a missing halfling statue. The elf seems confused about a halfling statue and doesn’t know anything about it. Eventually, the elf starts to get sad and then starts wailing.
○ They take the elf back down to the crypts. They put the elf back (and assuming the dwarf). Mari and Morfear notice a glow under the door at the far end of the hall. Groot then picks up the human statue which again does a piercing scream for 10 seconds.
○ They then head back up to the altar and put statue on the altar.
• Evening
○ The human animates and tells them he is High Priest Envidion. Mari asks him for knowledge for being able to cleanse the temple. Envidion tells them the temple is a focus of great power. He then tells them about a sacred crystal which will focus the power of the sun.
○ He then sends them around the upper temple to talk with the different frescos and murals to attempt to get the temple to help them find the crystal.
○ Mari attempts to talk to the murals for quite awhile. The priest tells them to cleanse themselves. Mari goes down and cleanses herself in the fountain. They notice the glow at the end of the hall is gone.
○ Mari tries to talk to the murals again with no effect. She then tries the frescos to no affect. The priest casts a spell on Mari which puts a nimbus around her and is supposed to protect her from the rain, but it doesn’t work.
○ Groot attempts to praise the murals to no affect. They then ask about when the last time Envidion spoke to the walls and learn that he has been dead for many years. They eventually give up.
○ About that time, lizardfolk from below appear and attack them. During the battle, Envidion calls the lizardfolk the Chosen and tells them to attack the defilers (the players). He casts spells on the lizardfolk to “help” them, but to no affect. After a fierce, but short battle, the group prevails.
○ They ask Wrecan about the statues and he doesn’t know anything about them. They took the statue back down to the hall in the crypt.
○ They head down to the door at the end and find it open. They take the dragon to the fountain. Mari tries to drink from the fountain.
○ They check out the first crypt and see if the elf statue matches the elf sarcophagus and find that it doesn’t. They check to see if the ground is still sanctified.
○ They open the second crypt room. Inside are more sarcophagus. They find 3 human, 1 halfling, 4 elves, and 2 dwarves in this room. The elf status doesn’t match, but the one of the humans looks the same.
○ Groot opens the matching human sarcophagus. A dark purple flash occurs and catches Groot, Morfear, and Mari. Only Groot takes damage. Inside is a human sized mummy with some trinkets on it. They put the lid back on and then head to the fountain where they find that only Morfear gets some healing.
○ Ari stealths down to the end of the hall and looks in the open door. He tosses a gland in to the middle of the room and notices the room has many puddles on the floor. He asks the lizard whether they had through any of the rooms.
○ Ari heads in to the get the gland and a fight starts. The grey oozes attack the party. Mari and Groot go down, Eran blows up the hall (and the oozes in the hall) causing everyone in the hall to dodge falling rocks as they head through the hall, and Adran and the dragon flank around to the back side during the battle. The battle is fierce, but our heroes prevail and are able to save their friends.
○ Mari attempts to talk to the murals to no affect. Morfear checks out the various cubbies in the mummification room while Brandis breaks down the door to the third crypt. Ari drinks from the fountain and heals some wounds. Adran keeps guard in the hall that heads deeper in to the bowels of the earth.
○ In the the third crypt room they find 10 more sarcophagi. 5 elves, 3 halfings, and 2 dwarves. Brandis opens the elf sarcophagus and find an elf sized mummy with a mace. They try to close the sarcophagus to elf to no avail, but they determine the mace is a dragonbane mace +2.
○ They take the elf back upstairs again where it screams at them for awhile before healing Groot and then starting to cry, so they put him back.
○ They spend some time trying to putting the statues in various places before putting them back in the alcoves.
○ The group heads down the stairs towards the entrance of the cavern where they hear steady drumbeats and chanting of “Thoss Fyurnen… Thoss Fyurnen…”

○ The crocodiles shuffled forward to attack. Mari and Groot lead the charge, but poor Groot gets chomped. Mari does a bit better and is able to move some of them around allowing Ari and several others to bring forth their attack. Ari vaults on to the throne and pins an old lizard man to the floor while the rest of the group finishes off the crocodiles with Ardan logging the final kills.
○ Talking with the lizard man, they learn he is Wrecan, advisor to Queen Vethka. Wrecan was the first lizard man they had seen who was not diseased. They learned from him that Queen Vethka was mad and worshipped Urgathoa, the goddess of disease and rot. Wrecan seemed hopeful they adventurers would defeat her so the lizardfolk clan could go back to normal. He also believed the disease was from defiling the temple. He told them Vethka was down in the caverns attending to the Chosen of Urgathoa, Thoss Fyurnen and that he would be their guide.
○ About this time, the wyrmling arrived from its feast in the great hall and immediately looked on Wrecan as prey. Morfear was able to calm the beast and keep it from eating the venerable lizardman.
○ Picking the room clean of treasure, they realized Groot had wandered off again. They found him standing in front of a door down the hall trying to get it open. After a couple of shoves, he shattered the stuck door. Inside was a long empty shelf and a chest with a broken lock. Groot decided to head inside right in to the falling green slime.
○ Able to dodge the slime, Groot was cut off from his compatriots by the slime itself. Ari ran up the wall and in to the room where he helped defend Groot while he pushed over the bookcase on the slime. They attempted to light it on fire, but the sodden wood struggled to light. Ardan started shooting flame arrows at the slime while Mari attacked it directly. The slime attempted to engulf Mari to no avail, and soon the slime was nothing but green sludge.
○ Searching the chest, they found a false bottom with some blue robes, a golden amulet, and some spiked gauntlets. On the wall, the found a rapier in a scabbard. And again, Groot got bored and wandered off.
○ Groot opened the next door down with a slam and inside were several soggy bookcases and a destroyed table in the center. Flying around the ceiling was a large bat-like creature which Ardan identified as a Stirge. Groot went to attack it, but other prevented him before Morfear eventually did attack it. Sensing a threat from those below, the Stirge flew at Groot and landed on him sinking its proboscis in to Groot’s back. Groot flailed about and eventually struck it with his maul. Mari ripped it from him and then Ardan killed it before it could attack anyone else.
○ Finding nothing else in the room, the group looked at the ominous stairs at the end of the hallwy. Questioning Wrecan, they learned the stairs led to the crypts and closer to Vethka and the dragon. The group decided to explore the rest of the ground floor of temple before heading in to the crypts.
• Late-Afternoon
○ The adventurers, led by an over-eager Groot, headed back over to the other half of the temple where they had seen the dragon statue. Groot found the first door and slammed it open, not learning anything from his previous encounters. Inside were several vine nets strung up to the ceiling. The smell of death and decay wafted from the room. They soon noticed one of the vine nets was swarming with Stirges which immediately attacked.
○ For this battle, Mari was prepared. She was able to get in front of Groot before the stirges could descend on him using her Sword Burst quickly defeated stirges almost single handedly. Searching the room, the group only found corpses in the nets, one of which looked to be a halfling in common spun clothing. He was a rather fresh kill.
○ Groot slammed open the next door (yes Groot was having fun breaking down doors). Inside were eight damp straw mattresses. Most likely where the lizard men slept. A strong sense of rotten eggs filled the room. Not sure what was going on, Ari threw his torch into the room causing it to explode! After the explosion, the smell was gone and only a couple adventurers were slightly singed. Searching the bedrolls, the group found an 8-inch statue of a dwarf in robes.
○ Handling the statue, Morfear realized the base of the statue was approximately the same size and shape as an indentation in the altar. Feeling he was on to something, he took the statue to the altar (which Ari had cleared of offal and fire beetles earlier) and placed the statue in the indentation. Immediately, the statue sprang to life. It folded its hands in supplication and spoke what can only be assumed to be a prayer as the dwarven words were unintelligible and those understood were nonsensical. After about a minute of this prayer, the dwarf slapped its forehead with its hand and said “The key is under the mid-day sun” in dwarvish. It then went back to praying.
○ Morfear and Brandis took this as a sign they should look at the various sun frescoes in the temple. Brandis thought of the season frescoes, while Morfear focused on the frescoes in the room with the dragon statue. These frescoes depicted various times of day and sure enough on the fresco of the mid-day sun, he found a small key neatly worked in to the design.
○ About this time, Groot again became restless and decided to break open the door he had been staring at for the last couple of minutes. The six inch chewed through hole in the bottom of the door notwithstanding. Almost immediately, a large centipede and several swarms of its smaller brethren crawled from broken wood piles in the room and attacked the adventurers.
○ The swarms of centipedes quickly crawled forth and engulfed Groot and Mari. Morfear got a little too close and a swarm engulfed him as well before he could fall back. Again Mari saved the day by utilizing her Sword Burst to knock the swarms of centipedes back. Before too long, the swarms were no more and the giant centipede fled in to a hole in the back of the room.
○ Inside this room, the adventurers found an iron lockbox with a glow emanating from the keyhole. A keyhole which was the perfect fit to the key they had just found. Inside, they found a quartz which was magicked to have an eternal glow, some jewelry, another pair of gauntlets and a sword made of blue metal.
○ Realizing they had taken many blows this day, the adventurers are trying to decide if they should head deeper in to the temple or find some way to rest…

Rova the 4th
• Mid-Day
○ The goblins ambushed the party. Turning to the foes, the party start to pick them off one by one.
○ A couple warriors attacked Eran, a different set attack Groot, and two others attacked Mari.
○ Meanwhile, the goblin archers moved from target to target, starting with Eran, then a devastating blow to Morfear, and then finally trying Ari and Groot before fleeing.
○ During the battle, Mari understood their battle plans and also heard them speak about “long shanks” and “Arvik”.
○ They were able to knock out one of the warriors, but when they tried to stop the archers, two got away and one was electrocuted by Mari.
○ Their prisoner turned out to be one Thunk, son of Momma Booga. He didn’t want to help them but saw the error of his ways when Groot became angry. They also discovered Thunk and his kin were half-goblin, half-dwarf. He eventually offered to lead them to Momma Booga and the group set off.
○ During their trek in the swamp, Mari continued to ply Thunk for knowledge. She learned the goblins had stolen something from the “black flying terror”. She also learned the names of Thunk’s brothers.
○ We also discovered that Mari is quite sadistic, just not overtly as she plugged the goblins mouth with a urine soaked rag from Groot.
○ Eventually, they neared the camp and set about observing it. Unfortunately, they were also observed by Nonk. Unfortunately for Nonk, Ari was able to get the drop on him and knock him out.
○ Ari then scouted the ruins and the camps. He wasn’t able to see much until he climbed the makeshift netting and looked inside. There he saw Momma Booga sitting at a campfire with two other goblins. Around a second campfire, sat two more goblins. Climbing a bit further, he was finally able to spot the dragon egg, a 4 foot tall by 3 foot diameter egg.
○ After descending to the swamp again, Ari went to head back to the group when he was discovered by one of the goblins. A short fight ensued with the goblin shouting for help.
○ Hearing the shout, Thunk let the rest of the group know it was Zork and they hurried to try and stop the fight as they wanted to talk with Momma Booga and not fight.
○ Ari was able to get away from Zork and his brother Venk and the fight stopped before it really got started.
○ Momma Booga came out and her boys surrounded her. She talked with the group in common and asked what they wanted. She didn’t seem to care the group was hunting lizardfolk, but when they mentioned thefts from humans, she twitched a little. She was able to provide them with directions to the lizardfolk demesne.
○ Eventually, the group mentioned that Arvik was dead. After much convincing, Booga believe them and deciding to leave when a large crack was heard from the ruined manor. Moments later a slimy-covered black dragon emerged having just hatched.
○ Booga and her kids decided to run as fast as they could while the dragon seemed to take a shining to Morfear who fed it some liver. Ardan determined that like some birds, the beast must have imprinted on the first thing it saw and so now was attached to Morfear.
○ After plundering the camp, the group headed back to where the lizardfolk and goblin tracks intersected. They again followed the lizard tracks.
○ After about an hour, the tracks started to become harder to follow and the rain started to pour down. As they started to tire from slogging through the mud, a lake appeared out of the mist with a small island in the center. Exactly as Momma Booga had told them.
• Mid-Afternoon
○ After creating a raft and floating to the island, the group examined the outside frescoes before heading to the entrance.
○ Being cautious the peered in to the main temple hall. Not quite making out the glow at the far end, Mari threw a torch in to the hall where it seemed to brighten.
○ Drawn by the light like a moth, Groot hurried in to the temple only to be ambushed by lizardfolk!!
○ After two quick hits from the lizardfolk, Groot went down.
○ The rest of the group quickly moved in to help him and eventually they were able to get him back on his feet. With Ari trying to some risky moves to help. Including sweeping some fire beetles off the offal pile to try and burn the lizardfolk. Unfortunately, they flew the wrong way.
○ After the initial strong onslaught, the lizardfolk crumpled like tissue paper and soon the wyrmling was feasting on lizardfolk guts.
○ Meanwhile, Ardan decide to do some exploring with Brandis. They headed in to one of the alcoves where Ardan came face to face with a dragon!!
○ The dragon statue was covered in fish bones and dried plants. Around the room were tiles depicting a full day of sun. Mrofear tried to determine where the statue came from as it was out-of-place and succeeded in determining it was probably from some kind of fortification.
○ The group then headed in to the other alcove where they discovered several cages full of fire beetles. Ardan determined they were hungry, so Mari fed them lizardfolk. This seemed to calm them down.
○ Looking down another hall, the group decided to try a door which led to a hall. At the end of the hall, it opened in to a room where a lizard hide covered throne sat in the middle of a pile of treasure. Unfortunately, it also contained four large crocodiles…

Timeline of Events

Rova the 2nd
• Mid-Afternoon
○ The adventurers headed for the manor gate where they found three guardsmen in a fierce battle against several lizardfolk.
○ The adventurers split themselves naturally with some attacking the blowgun toting lizardman and the others helping the guards at the gate.
○ They quickly took down the lizardman with the blowgun and its retinue of guards. Meanwhile, the fight at the gate had taken a turn for the worse as two of the three guards went down.
○ With everyone focused on the fight at the gate, the battle was quickly over.
○ The group helped get one of the guards back on his feet while Mari discovered some potions on the lizardfolk bodies.
○ As the guard came to, he implored the adventurers to head inside and help their lord as several lizardmen had breached the gates.
○ Heading in to the courtyard, the adventurers were just in time to see a black dragon the size of a large war horse take off and fly off to the west, but not before spurting two more gobs of acid at the manor hall.
○ Following the obvious signs of battle inside the manor, they discovered several lizardfolk in the main hall attacking a guardsman and a middle aged man. As they watched, two large black scaled lizardfolk slammed the men to the floor before turning their attentions on the group.
○ The two large black scaled creatures charged Groot and smashed in to him. This was followed up by a robed shaman causing a cloud of swamp gas to appear around many of the adventurers.
○ Groot and Morfear fought back, but Groot was brought to his knees.
○ Meanwhile, Eran and Mari moved to engage the shaman. Eran was able to get some decent elemental bolts fired at the shaman before he was attacked by some of the shaman’s guards.
○ Mari engaged the guards, but eventually was overwhelmed.
○ Ari, Groot, Brandis, and Morfear were finally able to overcome the bruisers and about the same time Adran was able to take down the shaman.
○ Soon, the entire battle was over as the group performed mop up duty.
○ After the battle, Morfear stabilized the nobleman while the rest of the group looked over the lizardfolk. They found a gem, some more healing potions, and a magic brooch and cloak. Mari was able to determine the brooch was a Healer’s Brooch and the cloak was a Cloak of the Mountebank.
○ About this time, Casp, Jaspar, and Shalelu arrived to help Lord Scarnetti in to his sitting room where he poured himself a drink. He then answered questions about the dragon attack mentioning the dragon wanted an altar that he had forgotten about.
○ He gave the dragon the altar and then the lizardfolk struck.
○ Casp then gave a report about the Lord’s guards before heading out to see to the defenses.
○ Lord Scarnetti then ordered his men to take the lizardfolk corpses and put their heads on pikes near the swamp.
• Evening
○ After attending the funerals of several of the fallen guard, the adventurers attended a somber dinner in the Hall.
○ Mari and Ari talked with several of the servants. Both trying to find out more about Titus Scarnetti. They learned the Scarnetti family was one of the four founding families of Sandpoint and that they made most of their money from lumber.
○ Groot and Ardan noticed that Lord Scarnetti rarely talked to Jaspar Korvaski. When Ari asked Jaspar about it, he said it was nothing, but Ari knew he was holding something back.
○ After dinner, Adran joined the guards on patrol around the manor.
○ After an uneventful evening, the adventurers finally got a good night sleep.

Rova the 3rd
• Morning
○ After telling them about an attack on another manor by goblins a month or so earlier where another altart was smashed, Jaspar gives the adventurers a job to find the Dragon’s Lair and retrieve the altar. He gives them some potions of healing and some rations.
○ Feeling they didn’t have enough supplies, Ari talks with Lord Scarnetti about the situation convincing him the job may take more time. He concedes and has the chamberlain give them another week of rations each.
○ They head out down the wagon tracks towards the swamp, making it to the outskirts about mid-day.

• Afternoon
○ After eating, the group followed lizardfolk tracks in to the swamp proper where it soon became oppressively humid. Bugs and mud covered them making the trek almost unbearable.
○ They followed the tracks for several hours before coming upon a clearing with two calm pools on either side of a dried mud isthmus.
○ Given an odd feeling about the place, they spent some time trying to determine if there was something wrong.
○ Groot discovered there were leeches in the pools, so they decided not to go swimming.
○ He then strode quickly out on to the mud and promptly almost fell in to a peat bog when the thin mud shell gave way. Gas quickly poured out of the opening, but Groot was saved by the vines connecting him to Mari who pulled him back out of the pit.
○ The group spent a little more time looking at the pit while the gas dissipated and then decided to try crossing again. Groot made it further, but again ran in to a pocket of thin mud. He noticed it in time, but the gas overcame Mari.
○ At this point, they decided to use Ari’s staff to poke in front of them and discovered one more pit before making it to the other side. They quickly moved on from the place.
• Evening
○ Trekking deeper in to the swamp, the tracks finally led out of the sporadic pools of water and deep mud and up a hill. Right to the base of a vine-covered broken obelisk.
○ Brandis and Mari looked over the obelisk and discovered faded pictographs and carved runes on its surface. Morfear looked over the construct and determined it to be quite ancient. Maybe more than five thousand years old.
○ After attempting to decipher the runes, the party decided to camp on this high ground for the night. Morfear created a fire through ritual which could only be seen if someone or something came within twenty-five feet of the fire and the group settled in to watches.
• Near Midnight
○ After an uneventful first watch, Ari and Groot took their turn. Near midnight the full moon finally slipped through the clouds and illuminated the obelisk revealing a silvery script.
○ They decided to wake Mari and Morfear to look at the strange script. Neither could figure out what the script said and Morfear’s ritual to comprehend the language seemed to be actively defeated by some kind of powerful ward.
○ Mari decided to take the time to copy down the script and after much work and many hours was able to reproduce it before heading back to sleep.

Rova the 4th
• Early Morning
○ In the wee hours of the morning, it was Mari and Eran’s turn for watch. They spent a relatively uneventful time on watch until Mari noticed some flickering lights off in the swamp. They would flicker on and off and then move away and do it again. Deciding not to follow the lights and since they weren’t getting any closer, Mari decided against investigating and to wait until morning.
• Morning
○ After rousing the whole group after daybreak, they decided to look over where the lights came from.
○ Heading in that direction, after about two hundred or so yards, they discovered a series of murky pools of water about three to five feet in diameter. Inside some of the pools they found the drowned remains of various animals.
○ Using a staff, they tried to measure the depths of pools only to discover they were more than the staff size deep. Pulling the staff out of one, a partially decomposed goblin head surfaced.
○ Marking this area as bad on their map, they headed out after the lizardfolk tracks.
• Mid-Day
○ Near mid-day, as the liardfolk tracks became harder and harder to discern, a new set of tracks showed up.
○ After spending some time, they determined the tracks were from goblins and seem to come from the direction the lizardfolk were heading and then turned north.
○ Ardan also determined that one set of tracks implied one of the goblins was carrying something heavy.
○ As they debated whether or not the goblins had the altar and whether they should continue to the lizardfolk or head after the goblin tracks, two black shafted arrows with black feathers appeared in a tree near Ari’s head. Looking up, two goblins sat in a tree knocking another arrow to their bows…

Timeline of Events

Rova the 2nd
• Mid-Morning
○ Ari and Mari arrived on board the Bluefin. They head over to the Sandpoint Mercantile League office and meet with Jaspar Korvaski.
○ Jaspar tasks them with finding out why there was still a theft the previous night even though he had already placed guards at the docks.
○ Ari and Mari head over to the Rusty Dragon where they meet Ameiko. While Ari talks with Ameiko, Mari heads up to the common room and attempts to wake the others. Nudging a bunk with her toe, it falls apart and dumps out Morfear.
○ Ari and Mari inform the others about the theft. The whole group heads over to the garrison to speak with the people caught on the docks the previous night.
○ At the garrison, the group meets the deputy, one Belor Viskalai. Belor brings forth the prisoners who are now quite cocky about the evening.
○ it turns out since the adventurers attacked them before they were actually on the ship, the potential thieves will probably walk.
○ After some discussion where Ari and Mari are brought up to speed on what happened the previous night, the adventurers find out that the perpetrators are young men from one of the Varisian clans. They have also been associated with Jubrayl Vhiski, a suspect leader of the local Sczarni (Varisian gang of thieves and cutthroats). However, the law can never make any of the gang turn on Jubrayl. The two in custody have been in jail before.
○ The group decides on a plan to follow one of the prisoners when they are finally released and then they head back to the League office to report.
○ Jaspar gives the group a dressing down about the theft, during which Morfear realizes how the thefts might be taking place (utilizing a ship pulled alongside to transport the cargo through the harbor instead of by land). This makes Jaspar give them a reprieve.
○ The group asks Jaspar about possible places cargo could be unloaded along the coast. He suggest some possible coves both north and south of Sandpoint.
○ They also asked about ships being built at the shipyard and whether all ships in Sandpoint were built there. Jaspar suggests some could have come from Magnimar. Especially any large ships.
○ The group heads out to try to determine their next move.
• Early Afternoon
○ Went to a good old fashion hanging.
○ Mari starts talking to people in the crowd and stumbles across the sheriff’s mother, Alma Avertin. They talk about pies for a while before Mari asks if she noticed anything unusual in the morning. Ms. Avertin didn’t. Talk moved to the Old Light and she mentioned that sometimes there are ghost lights seen coming from the lighthouse. In fact, there may have been some this morning. She suggests talking to her daughter after the hanging. She also mentions Brodert Quink a sage who lives near the lighthouse.
○ The hanging begins with the condemned being brought to the gallows under heavy guard. His eyes and mouth have been sewn shut. Kendra gives the signal and the executioner throws the lever. All hell breaks loose.
○ Arvik doesn’t actually fall as his magical tattoos take over and cause him to hover in mid-air. Further, he seems to somehow possess the guards and the council. After a tense battler where Morfear almost died, the group defeated Arvik.
○ Arvik drops and his neck snaps with an audible crack, but a skeletal face appears over Arvik and says “We shall not be stopped. The Tyrant will rise again!” Then a swirling black vortext swallows up Arvik’s body and disappears.
○ After reviving the knocked out council and guards, and ensuring they were all right, the crowd begins to disperse. Hoof beats are heard and soon a rider appears heading straight for the group and the Sheriff. Stopping right before the group, a beautiful elf drops to the ground and says, “A dragon is attacking Scarentti’s Hall.”
○ The sheriff immediately starts gathering together an advanced group to quickly head to the Hall. He sends Belor off to get horses, requesting some for the adventurers as well after Ari suggests they could help.
○ Ari asks around about the elf, learning she is Shalelu Andosanna and that she has been a ranger in the nearby forests for many years, warning the town of many a goblin attack.
○ Soon Belor returns with horses and the adventures, Sheriff Avertin, Deputy Belor, Shalelu, Jaspar, and about a dozen hastily assembled guards take off on the Lost Coast road towards the Hall.
• Mid-Afternoon
○ Riding as fast as they could, the group notices smoke in the distance after about half an hour. Fifteen minutes later, they crest a small rise and see a battle occurring between some farmers and what look to be lizards on two legs.
○ The farmers are barely holding on while their wives and children run as fast as they can. Casp breaks up the group in to multiple squads and send them to help the farmers.
○ The adventurers help a group of farmers near an overturned wagon. They quickly take the battle to the lizardfolk with Ari jumping on the wagon and shouting for the lizardfolk to leave.
○ After a short, but ferocious battle, the adventurers defeat the last of the lizards.
○ While looking over one of the lizards, Groot notices several boils and lesions and shows them to Morfear. While examining the lizard, it shakes with a start and tells them in Draconic (translated by Eran), “Save my people.” before finally expiring.
○ Morfear was unable to determine what the disease was other than it seemed to be magical in nature. Ari thought maybe it was the work of the goddess of disease, Urgathoa.
○ Searching the bodies, they found a chain mail shirt of dwarven make size on one of the lizardfolk. How did one of the lizardfolk come by such equipment. it also turned out the shirt was magical.
○ The adventurers helped the farmers right the wagons and get them back on their way, overhearing that a black dragon had attacked the Hall.
○ They quickly covered the remaining distance to the Hall and came upon a pitched battled between lizardfolk and the guards of the hall. Casp again split up the group into squads, sending the adventurers to secure the gate…

GM’s Note:
To help the player’s recall what has happened from week to week, I will be making two adventure logs for each session. One will be a quick summary of what happened during the session (like this one). The other

will be a creative accounting of the session from the perspective of Eran Valeri.

Timeline of Events

Rova the 1st
• Mid-Morning
○ Arrived at Sandpoint aboard the Mermaid’s Folly
○ Immediately “greeted” by Pais (pronounced pay-us) the self-proclaimed welcoming committee of Sandpoint. After some negotiation, the group paid the 1gp per person fee.
○ Directed to the Sandpoint Mercantile League office by Pais (he was quite helpful after being paid) where they met Jaspar Korvaski.
○ Jaspar quickly gave them a job to figure out who has been stealing cargo from the League ships. Recommended the Rusty Dragon for a place to stay.
○ The Rusty Dragon turned out to be a dive run a by a young woman by the name of Ameiko. They were able to secure a place in the common room.
• Mid-Afternoon
○ Went to the Swallowtail Festival where they were able to obtain some good food and had a good time with some carnival games before noticing some men (some of the same guys from the morning) relieving people of their belongings.
○ After a brief fight, the group was able to stop the thieves, some of whom were restrained. The guard arrived, led by the Sheriff, and after some explanations took the thieves in to custody.
○ Our adventurers went back to the Rusty Dragon to rest before sundown.
• Dusk
○ Arriving at the docks, Jaspar showed them which ships to keep guard over and then headed back up in to town.
○ Not much happened for the first couple of hours except for some drunks who were able to detect Groot hidden on a ship, but didn’t believe it and were too drunk to report it.
○ Right around midnight, a pack of wild dogs moved down the docks looking to scavenge but were chased off by tavern goers leaving for the evening.

Rova the 2nd
• Sometime after Midnight
○ Finally in the wee hours of the morning, Morfear detected some sounds on the side of the ship he was on. Looking over the side, he saw that a smaller ship was coming up alongside the ship away from the docks.
○ About the same time, others noticed that several men were slinking along the docks and were about to climb aboard the ship. Ardan shot one while Groot attempted to jump from the ship he was on to dock, missing and causing the thieves to try to flee.
○ A relative short, intense battled took place where the adventurers were able to capture several of the gang (and a few were killed).
○ They took the survivors to the garrison and had them put in jail before heading back to the Rusty Dragon for some much needed sleep.
